the new Jetta GLS leather package and GLX VR6 got the genuine leather option. Its simply non-sense that a higher level vehicle in the product line-up gets only leatherette as an option. Audi's product planners should put leather sports seats as standard on sports package, while leatherette only available with non-sports. These will make more sense when you consider a Accord-class Jetta 2.0 GLS can get leather package.
Just some thought after read through the pamplet on the new Jetta
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQM

Tom:
Just my $.02: One of the two or three primary
reasons that the A4, and especially the 1.8Q has
been such a huge success is the tremendous value
for the buyer. Add leather and sport seats to a
typically optioned 1.8Q, and you're approaching
an MSRP of $32,000., which still wouldn't be a bad
value, but certainly not the STEAL that it currently is. Also, IMHO, you really can't compare
a Jetta (I've owned and sold many) to an A4; the
VR6 engine is an absolute masterpiece, but an A4
with a 1.8, even a non-turbo, is much more car.
I agree, leather should be an option on the 1.8T. Audi wants leather lovers to move up to a 2.8. This cost Audi my sale as I would have bought a 1.8T if leather was available and instead bought a different car. Same story for wood trim, why not an option on 1.8T?
This would be perfect for those of us who loves the modification of the 1.8T, while still have the access the 2.8's luxurious wood-and-leather interior.
Tom
97 A4 1.8tQM
I agree! What's the big deal? Another thing is when your spending that much moola ($$) on a car, don't you think that they could also offer an indash CD player???!! Take a look at the cost of A8, they still only offer a tape player!! and the cost of an A* is in excess of $75,000!!!!
