View Full Version : DE insurance? s4ronin 10-15-2003, 02:00 PM Anyone know of a carrier who insures car for DE? LCP 10-15-2003, 02:01 PM ...but so far I've only heard of Allstate expressly excluding it. I'd bet others are trying to though. s4ronin 10-15-2003, 02:04 PM If I insure my "track" car as a street car through Allstate will they cover for DE?? JayP 10-15-2003, 08:03 PM I know of at least one guy who made a claim on a wreck at an event had it covered and was quickly dropped... the Subaru Legacy guy. State Farm has a program where long time, good drivers will never be dropped. I suppose totalling out a car on a track might force the issue somewhat. While researching potenial track cars, I found a guy with an MGB who wrapped it up... "Don't track a car you would mind rolling off a pier." While I agree, my wallet doesn't. I'll take it easy at track events with my daily driver. When I find my tracker w/ roll cage and fire system, I'll go 10/10ths. Until then, I'm ploddin'. LCP 10-16-2003, 07:33 AM ...there's a collectible car insurance company that offers this but only in select states and TX is not one of them. Last I heard Allstate was making DE events a specific exclusion in their policies. NickS 10-16-2003, 09:03 AM it depends on what you want out of your driving events. If you just want to go out there, race around at some "comfort level" then do that. If however, you actually want to learn something and push yourself (and your car) to be better, you HAVE to push that comfort threshold or you will never improve. My point...I wouldn't waste money if all I wanted to do was go putz around the track for a weekend or always "need" an instructor in my car (which I don't!) for him/her to hold my hand around the track. I'll get off my soapbox now! ;) bubba j 10-17-2003, 02:06 PM JayP 10-20-2003, 11:35 AM I know more about my driving ability. I'm a better driver and have hit the limit a few times at DEs. If I want to get closer to that edge, I want a car with a cage. A cage in the Mustang makes it a 2 seater and Andrew doesn't like riding in the trunk. I've kinda regressed on the choice of cars... a low hp, light car would be easier to maintain. A Miata with a performance suspension with a rollbar is a candidate but I'm waiting on the high school "daddy's girls" to get tired of the MINIs. That'd be a damn good car to add a cage. One thing I -hate- about DEs is working on the car after the event to make it worthy of getting to/from work. Tires, pads, rotors, ducting... I'm too lazy for that. When I had the GTi, I'd park the A4, tools, tires, everything in the car and leave it for the next day. Also works when wrenching... I learned my lesson with the Mustang and trying to get the rear diff cover installed on a Thursday night. Thank god AutoZone was open until 9pm. |
