View Full Version : omg... just got back home and i wanna go back to TWS! jasyn³ 10-13-2002, 03:29 PM NickS 10-13-2002, 04:56 PM What happened to you and Ken? Did you get caught up in traffic? I was home at 5:45... TWS rocked! TTopflite 10-14-2002, 06:16 AM I saw you on the road just outside Navasota. Was there a problem. By the time I turned around you were gone. Did you make it back ok. Carl '01TTQ Amulet Red KenK in TX 10-14-2002, 07:28 AM ...about the experience and someone eavesdropping asked what video game I was talking about!? Bwahahahaha! The only comment/suggestion I have is about signaling a pass. It seems to me that using turn signals would be quicker, safer, and easier for everyone to use than the pointing method. fusilier 10-14-2002, 07:50 AM I learned a great deal this weekend. But I would say I learned more things about my car then things about driving. My first two sessions were wasted troubleshooting some handling problems. There are many more things than I expected to convert it from gravel to asphalt. See you guys at the next track event. Jasyn next time I'll have the 3" exhaust. The 2.5" midsection with cat might have been limiting me to 250 hp. JayP 10-14-2002, 08:57 AM Real racecars don't have turnsignals. Some race groups use a left signal to pass on the left, others a left signal is for moving to the left for a pass on the right. Some cars use ambler lamps, other use red. It can cause confusion if someone has a light failure, taps for braking, etc... Hand signals are obvious. jasyn³ 10-14-2002, 03:27 PM nothing seemingly out of the ordinary .. but i'm going to raise the car up just to be sure. as for the feb DE.net event ... i'm DEF going to sign up. way too much fun. sliced bread cant compare. =) NickS 10-14-2002, 03:56 PM Jimmy Pribble 10-15-2002, 08:57 AM I got there late on Saturday and spent most of the afternoon/evening working on the rally car. We were going to hook-up for dinner, but late in the afternoon we were looking over the rally car when somebody said, "Say, don't you have a restrictor plate on this thing? I wonder where it is and how you take it off." Next thing I know, we (the QRS boys) are doing a turbo cold-side R&R right there on the side of the road using borrowed tools. I kid you not, at one point, you would have seen James wailing away on his cold-side housing with a ball hitch and sledge hammer. I swear. Now THAT is some serious track-style, get-it-done-at-all-costs, repair work. Anyway, we got the restrictor plate off and everything buttoned up, but it was too late for dinner. Jasyn, your car looked great out there. It looked pretty quick. I watched you go way wide on the carousel once, but otherwise, you looked to be driving very well. I'm glad you had fun. Lance, how did you do? I timed you twice, but both times you got caught in traffic. Well, I guess THAT says something. Nick, everything good on Sunday? What's that bunny hopping around there? All peeps report in; I want to hear some stories! I hope to have the track done by February, so maybe I'll see you guys there. Later, NickS 10-15-2002, 09:34 AM Bunny hopping?? Jimmy Pribble 10-15-2002, 10:16 AM The badge sez GTI, but I still see wabbit! I really dig your car. Just wondering how you did. Later, TTopflite 10-15-2002, 11:13 AM NickS 10-15-2002, 11:31 AM My last session, I had a balst with that guy in the yellow C5. We talked after the session and he couldn't believe how quick it was. It was fun! The next time I'm there I will be stage3 and have Hoosiers! :) LCP 10-15-2002, 02:52 PM ...but I was driving sloppy on those laps too. I should have had a 2:03 or 2:04 if I could have used my brain a little more. I don't think I could have done my pie-in-the-sky target of a 2:02 without more tire or better suspension (of course and then my goal would be a 2:00, or 1:59 with both). KenK in TX 10-16-2002, 05:58 AM LCP 10-16-2002, 06:18 AM elToro 10-16-2002, 06:46 AM Everyone else in Green were running 2:40s. KenK in TX 10-16-2002, 07:04 AM elToro 10-16-2002, 07:13 AM It took all day Saturday to figure the 200tq out and get some confidence after not running in so long. I was in yellow and traffic was a definate issue until the rain came Sunday and the run group got smaller. I was faster than the slowest guys in the group, but I was definately slower than a lot of the guys in yellow. My main problems were a lack of power (I was only running 1.4 bar of boost at WOT) and my fear of going WOT through turn 7 (location of my off-track excursion in the A6 last Jan). My goal for Feb, when I should be running 2.5 bar and hopefully be able to deal with turn 7, is 2:15. Considering my best time in the A6 was 2:18, I'm happy. Especially considering the A6 has got at least 70 hp over the 200 right now. I'm convinced that if it hadn't rained on Sunday and there hadn't been so much debris in turns 6 and 7, I could have broken 2:20 Sunday afternoon. As it was my best time Sunday afternoon was a 2:22. All in all I had a blast and I really enjoyed putting my 12 year-old Audi family sedan through the paces. jasyn³ 10-16-2002, 08:39 AM sunday ... run2: by far the best laps of the event for me. if i recall i was behind a certain silver 2.8 suffering under pressure and getting squirelly going through moe, larry & curly right before i accepted the wave by. =) RAIN run3: spun out during the warm up lap, pulled a hot pit, let out 5+ psi all around and still spun out during the cool down lap. =o sidebar: not so proud winner of the "only person ever to have spun during the warm up AND the cool down lap." heh run4: i could still feel the rear getting loose all over the place so decided to just practice my lines instead of bringing the whop down on that stasis coiled 2.8 out there. hehe wait till feb! KenK in TX 10-16-2002, 08:46 AM jasyn³ 10-16-2002, 09:35 AM Jimmy Pribble 10-16-2002, 10:34 AM We are kind of busy with my car(s) right now, but if you can bring us your car sometime before February and leave it with us, I know we can find the problem with the boost in your car. I'll diagnose (and probably fix) for free. I'm betting that it is something simple. We can talk about it later. BTW, did you hear that Eric bought a '91 200, so he can pull the engine and put it in his UrQ? Later, NickS 10-16-2002, 11:03 AM elToro 10-16-2002, 01:51 PM Thanks Jimmy. I think I know the problem. The breather hose from the crankcase and a few other hoses have collapsed and I'm pretty sure that is the issue. At least, it is the only thing we've been able to find that could be the problem. Everything else looks good (turbo, IC, IC and turbo hoses, etc). Anyway, I've got a new Breather hose and other stuff on it's way from Blau. Eric told me about the 91 200 Avant. Too cool! I'm trying to think of stuff I might need that I can steal, I mean borrow! ;) BTW, did you get my email about the Strebro exhaust for the 200? I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking about just doing something custom. Later, Ken jasyn³ 10-16-2002, 02:46 PM if we ever end up in the same run group .. heh by the time i hit yellow .. you'll probably be in white. if you drop a stage3 into that thing .. wooooo NickS 10-16-2002, 03:39 PM By my next event, I will be stage3 and be sporting Hoosiers!! 350hp in a 2900lb car with glue for traction...WOO-HOO! :) jasyn³ 10-16-2002, 07:52 PM NickS 10-17-2002, 04:19 AM Ryan E. 10-18-2002, 07:08 PM It was a fun weekend for sure. I had a few fast laps (including a 2:08) and worked on improving some of the corners. Got some confidence back in Turns 1 & 2 and reeled in a few cars in the Carousel. Burned through a couple of front tires. Down to the cords. Time for new track rubber. The BFG's were good while they lasted. Can't wait for the next event. No more excuses Jimmy!!! -Ryan |
