By now, most of you have seen the post about Stratmosphere's association with Oberscheider Chip Tuning in Austria.

I just installed the O.CT Stage 1 chip into my 2001 A4 1.8T and drove around the block a few times. This car has a stock exhaust and a KO3 from a 1997 A4. No other engine mods, unless you count the APR Snub mount.

First impression... wow, this thing pulls like a freight train. I was not even out of the apartment parking lot and I almost hit a parked Suburban when I tapped the gas pedal. Lots of torque, and it is immediate.

So far all I've done is a few laps around the block, nothing to radical. Tomorrow I'll find out how it pulls getting onto the freeway and merging with traffic.

A few numbers: O.CT dynos this chip at 195 HP and 207 ft-lb of torque. Butt-dyno tells me its more.

More to follow.

Or any GIAC equipped ride you might have been in?

As for the APR... my APR had two spots that, when under full-throttle acceleration, seemed to drop off power for a few miliseconds. Kinda jolted the smoothness.

This one is smooth all the way to redline, with no drop-offs. The torque comes on sooner, and the pull feels about the same, maybe a tad more than the APR.

I'll need to get a VAG and a laptop on this to get some real-time data.

Oberscheider has a relly nice 4-wheel dyno at their facility in Austria. Until I speak with Bob at Strat, I'ld have to guess it's wheel numbers.

A look at the dyno plots shows low tq and HP... unless the numbers are at the wheel and not the crank.

Reminds me of the MTM chip in your '97... lots of tq at the very beginning and good pull all the way to redline. More pull than the APR chip, and more smooth delivery.

<center><img src="http://www.stratmosphere.com/170_base_longi_newa4_stage1.gif"></center><p>Look at the green and blue lines- the stock HP and torque are what look to be about 170 max.

The OCT chip makes almost 200hp, 210lbft. Look at how flat that torque is! Alot like the mtm chip... The mtm chip made about 180-185hp and over 200lbft.

I wish I could have dynoed my car- I've tried to get Andy to dyno on Cobb's machine but he's not interested.
