I didn't hear about it until I hit work this morning, but I absolutely couldn't believe my ears when I heard (and read) that HPD busted 400+ people at the Kmart on Westheimer for criminal trespassing! They nailed everyone in the area and took them to jail, no questions asked.

I cant wait to hear HPD try to justify this action - someone is going to lose their job over this, or the city is going to get inundated with law suits.

Un freaking believable. Westheimer - the new red square.

I'm sure the local businesses have a legitimate gripe about the massive congregation, but this isnt the way to handle it. Keeping 400+ kids off the streets isnt a bad thing in my book, and those gatherings seem to be pretty innocuous.

Raid on Kmart lot leaves shock, anger

The fricking law enforcement mentality is astronomically stupid 99% of the time.

Since I have yet to actually see a policeman *PREVENT* a violent crime or theft, I can only assume they wish to bust a bunch of kids hanging out in a parking lot to set an example of the only "criminals" they can catch. Congratulations they've just made 400 people into paranoid cop haters for the rest of their lives. Doing this just forces those kids to congregate somewhere else. From a well lit, safe, parking lot where its easy to see nothing dangerous is taking place to a dark field out in the middle of nowhere.

And you know those kids parents are going to raise a huge stink. Hopefully some of those pigs in charge will lose their job. At least 50% of those arrested is wrongful arrest and they won't be able to get the charge to stick. All someone needs is a receipt from one of the stores dated that day and its wrongful arrest.

400 cases of criminal trespassing -- yeah right. I'd hope the DA has the sense God gave a doormat to not prosecute anyone from that night, and then maybe the cops would get the message. It sounds like this was nothing but harrassment, unlike the bust of the street racers where there actually was evidence being collected that would allow for convictions.

I heard about that briefly this morning but damn if that's not the most insane thing I've heard lately. I was just at that k-mart like last week.
