I think its starting at 1604 and Bandera road.
Can someone from STAG confirm that?

What time?
Anyone else from Austin want to caravan down there Saturday morning?

If anyone is in the Austin area who is not in the Austin Audi Club, they should check this link out www.austinaudiclub.org Very friendly, knowledgeable and active club for Audi owners.

Chris White has organized the route and suggested meeting at Jim's restaurant (1604 and Bandera) at 8am on Saturday 7/20. I have not heard any differently.

You might want to sign up with the STAG Yahoo group, since that has been our primary form of communication...see link.

STAG's Yahoo group

8AM?

You guys from San Antonio must be in a different time zone. :-) Thats a 645AM departure from Austin. Oh Boy.. Thats going to take alot of persuading on the wife.. And I'm going to miss Magny Cours Qualifying. Now your asking alot.:-D
I'll have to pass, but I was looking forward to it.

Aggressive?

No, not quite what I had in mind. :-). I had a AAC type HC drive in mind but your words bring to mind a STAG HC rampage.

I'll pass. Let me know which roads you guys are gonna be on so I can avoid them. LOL

May I ask what kind of 'drive' did you have in mind?

What exactly is an AAC type HC drive anyway?

Exactly, your right.:-)
Its not a problem either way unless someone goes off or has a mishap with a 3rd party. So be careful out there.

and yes, even in the AAC there are "fast" drivers who outpace the field; however, there is a large chase group that follows at a reasonable tempo. And I'd probably still show up if not for the developing situations this weekend, because I was planning on being in San Antonio this weekend anyways. As it turns out, its looking more and more likely that I'll be getting a 83 UrQuattro this weekend and I'll have to make travel and transporation arrangements instead.

I'm going to have fun with this question. :-)

Have you ever seen the movie Duel?
Well imagine the red dodge w/ Dennis Weaver at the wheel being chased by the dusty faceless 18 wheeled fuel truck.

Now imagine a 4 ringed Audi logo. Do you put it on the truck or the red dodge?

Man, there were people complaining at 5-10mph over the speed limit -- I thought that was leisurely. Then if we opened it up some for a mile or two in the really curvy stuff -- watchout for all the **** hitting the fan.

I still want to do a Lone Star Chapter big drive (I'm thinking around Halloween-time), with overnight accomodations at a ranch or something, where we can have say 4 run groups -- kamikaze, aggressive, leisurely, and let-me-stop-every-10-minutes-for-gas-beverages-food-and-a-piss. And for the record, put me in aggressive, not kamikaze.

Meeting (in San Antonio) at Jim's 1604/Bandera Rd (16) 0800 hours. Leave lot at 0830(as long as everyone's present). If you're running late, call me 210-219-6422 (or call Peter Haas on 972-342-5032).

We'll be heading north on 16 out of Helotes. Left (West) on Park Rd 37.

Right (N) on 1283. Left (W) on 16 into Bandera. There's a detour we have to take to get to 470 West since a bridge was washed out. Continue
West on 470 through Tarpley all the way to Vanderpool.

Left (S) on 187 into Utopia. Breakfast. Depending on our pace, it should take an hour to hit Utopia.

We'll then take 187 North until we hit 337, go left (W). We'll briefly stop in Leakey. If we can see hang gliders, I'd like to look, if
not...press on.

We'll take 337 back East until Medina. Left (N), on 16 into Kerrville. There's a few routes we can take to get back into SA, I figured we'll
wait and see how everyone feels before I suggest the rest of the route.

You haven't been indoctrinated until you've blasted up 1431 and back.

Yeah.:-)
There hasn't been a drive in over a year. here or there. But I'd be silly to rampage on back roads in an A8L wouldn't I? Its fast but one tight corner and the long wheelbase will eat my lunch. Not too smart.

Maybe I should trade it in for a RS6. I've got 50,000 equity on it right now.

...just because the sign may be marked 20mph doesn't mean you take it at that speed! =P

Yeah. For the HC drive., I agree. But of course I don't know the roads your doing on Saturday.

but I was referring to Lime Creek Rd in Austin which has some really tight hairpin like corners, and the length of the A8 really makes those corners worse than they already are.

However, your car would eat 1431 alive. Although, some sportier tires might be in order. ;-)

I spun my 2000 A8 on LCR the very day I was to trade it in. Just lost the backend going around that corner(225 Goodyears w/ plenty of tread). Going north is was that very tight 180 banked hairpin to the left. No harm but the right rear went off the road. I might try the A8L(245 Bridgestone Potenzas) with ESP the next time I'm up there.

...but pshaw, I don't see what the big deal was. There is no way that I went over 80 mph through the neighborhood and besides, it was late and everybody was in bed, so it was uh, safe-ish. Say, who was in the car with me that I scared so badly? Eric Fluhr was with me, but there was somebody else.

Say, how is JohnJ doing? I haven't heard from him in a long time. Does he still have the Boxster S? I miss that guy.

Later,

I hope you guys stopped in at the Gospel Tabernacle for your dose of religion. :-)

(In which town were those pictures taken?)

PeteH

At any moment we could have careened off a cliff or into the side of a mountain (hill for all you other non-Texans).

The pics of the cars lined up at the Tablernacle was taken in Utopia, acoss the street from the diner where we ate breakfast.

The curvy sign picture is out from Utopia, on a side road that we drove twice on the way to Kerrville. It was out of the way, but very worth it!

The Gruppe photo of all the "Rampagers" was taken on the outskirts of Kerrville as we were all disbanding for the day.

No pictures on the road... as Ken said, we were all too busy holding on for dear life!

Well while you Rampagers were doing that, I was driving my newly acquired Alpine White 83 Quattro from Baltimore to West Memphis.

All in all, 1600 miles in two days. Not too shabby. That makes at least 5 Urquattros in Austin. Rob,Jimmy,Eric,Anthony and Myself.

I got a warning from an Arkansas State Trooper for going 82 in a 60 in West Memphis.

Actually, Anthony cheats because his UrQuattro is actually in Florida. However, Eric's brother Ken has one, so that still makes five. Remarkably, they are all different colors:

You - White
Rob - Green
Eric - Blue
Ken - Black
Me - Red

As soon as they all run and get cleaned up, we have the ingredients for an awesome photo. Congrats on your car!

Jimmy if you have some time, I'd like to talk with you on Thursday about the urQ.

Wanted to compare some of the engine behaviour with yours and talk options.

I will. It will probably be my typical AAC driver, since at the moment its the one I'm most proud of. I just picked up floormats from Rob, who was nice enough to sell his. The heat is going to really be unbearable.
