How accurate is it at night?
How do you correctly identify the offender?
Do you only shoot after the vehicle passes by?
I would think the headlight glare would make it hard to get a visual id?
I only ask as while on the pike saturday night with my brother in his SUV we got stopped doing 83 and got off with a warning.
The officer was clear in saying we were clocked with hand held laser.

Its Line of Sight, they aim for the front plate usually first, It's deadly accurate, Its better than radar, because it records at the speed of light, vs radar wich is a wider band. Usually shoot while they are approaching, but can also shoot after they pass. Head light glare would make it only difficult to visually ID at a great distance, once you get closer, you're screwed.
This is just what I have collected over the years, Any LEO may be able to correct it.

and explained to me that if he wrote 56, the chief would be all over his @rse for giving me a written warning...
flew around a corner, saw the cop pass me, he stepped on his brakes... so i went around the corner and pulled over and stopped and waited for him, put down all my tinted windows n sunroof, turned on lights (even though it was 2pm), got my reg and license ready... and about 5 seconds after ALL of that he came flyyying around the corner to notice me already stopped... slammed on his brakes and stopped behind me. lol i was lucky as hell, but i think my 'stopping' and knowing i was speeding and being respectful to him got me out of it... ::cringe::
never again.
stupid girl behind me in a camaro was tailgating me for about 5 miles already, which is why i took off after making a turn, **** luck i got

much better than radar, but is still pretty wide)..
i think thats wat the numbers were, i did the research trying to fight a ticket a while ago, and for a LEO to 'shoot' a gun accurately at a 5ft target 1000 feet away is pretty 'hard', so aiming a lidar gun at a car 1000ft away hitting "the headlight" which is a tiny 1 ft target, is veryyy hard.
also goes into training and such of the correct use, as for example using the scope is only accurate for the first 20 or so feet, since it is not directly lined up in the same line as the laser's exit or something
(this is just all from memory, if you do a quick google search you will find more hard facts)

The license plate is good place to aim, or between the headlights ;)
When fighting you always want to ask to see calibration and training certificates.

..............and its only a glorified range finder.
In other words it measures distances over time.

specifically in terms of a situation like this, maybe just to cover his own arse. I know theres been multiple LEO questions directed towards him on the boards that he doesn't answer. I don't blame him I guess.
