Hey Everyone,
Has anyone else noticed that the taillight on the mid-'99 A4 on the index page of A4.org is different?
I'm not just talking about the colour of the turn signals (which light up amber in many Euro models), but the fact that they have flipped around the location of the turn signal and the back-up light. So now the taillight arrangement is:
Fog
Turn signal
Reverse
Taillight/brake
I've been planning to change my '98 taillight to Euro spec (amber signal) for a while now. I have noticed following other '98 A4s that because the turn signal is right above the taillight, plus the fact that it is red, makes it less noticeable to drivers behind you. If the mid-'99s are going to swap the location of the turn signals and the back-up lights, It's definately going to make an improvement.
I have not heard anything about this change though. Can anyone confirm it for me? If possible, I would also like to find out if it's possible to swap in a mid-99 unit (preferably Euro spec) on to my '98 A4?
Thanks for your help.

James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver

This is on the Euro-only A4. The changes include bumpers, headlights, taillights, side cladding, and other stuff. These changes will not be making it to the USA, at least not this year.
Christian J. Long

I am in the middle of this change and It is hard to make the correct decision. My dealer has a 12/99 built to spec A4 on the way for me without a deposit.I now have to decide to order a new 99.5 or take the 99.I really am excited about owning the car but I hate to get in a hurry just to own one.Currently drving a Infiniti I-30 on a great month to month lease.

I have no idea if they plan on bringing the new bumper and light changes over here in mid year or not. Car companies usually do not like to tell when a change will take place, since some customers will put off buying that car until the newer one is available with the changes.
The threat to other car companies is that if customers put off buying the Acura TL for 6 months to wait for a change, they might wander into an Audi dealer in the meantime and find out what it is really like to own a sports sedan.
Christian J.
