View Full Version : I need new front pads and rotors Jereme (re up) 06-11-2008, 05:03 AM Anybody got any shop suggestions in either the boston/brookline area or the Bridgewater/w.Bridgewater area? Thanks 4Driver4 06-11-2008, 05:19 AM Jereme (re up) 06-11-2008, 05:35 AM I have been thinking about that. what kind of tools would i need? i keep thinking about how important the brakes are and then if i really want to do them my self. CP 06-11-2008, 06:10 AM Big c-clamp to push the pistons back into the calipers. Maybe a big hammer and some different sized bolts to get rusted rotors off the hubs. If someone who's done it before can help, it shouldn't take very long. Bleed the brakes while you're at it. DxC 06-11-2008, 06:26 AM now it has changed to ... "i trust myself most to spend time on it and do it right" GDawgA4 06-11-2008, 06:53 AM they're torqued to 140 lb-ft from the factory, eek! It doesn't take too long and not very hard. Have done it myself a couple of times now on various Audis. AudiZilla 06-11-2008, 08:05 AM Add a coat hanger/wire to hook the calipers to spring/upper control arm after you've unbolted it and are wrestling with the carrier. You don't want to let the caliper hang by the brake hose since that can easily damage the brake hose and lead to brake failure. Also add at least one jackstand to the tool list, and use it. Never work on a car that is only supported by a jack! They are known to fail, and Murphy's law dictates the failure will occur at the most inopportune time... FWIW, the Hawk HP pads I put on a couple months ago have been excellent. Great bite, no squeel, very low dust (much less than Mintex). Grapeking 06-11-2008, 10:14 AM CP 06-11-2008, 10:53 AM Wire or coat hangers are a PITA to bend around into the spring, can scratch the paint, etc. Two zipties locked together per side does the trick every time. Then just cut them off when finished. epeephile 06-11-2008, 11:36 AM Jereme (re up) 06-11-2008, 11:57 AM might have to take you up on that Jon-1.8t 06-11-2008, 01:05 PM Jon-1.8t 06-11-2008, 01:15 PM might be a drive for some though, located up in milton, nh Jon-1.8t 06-11-2008, 01:41 PM good prices too NoahD 06-11-2008, 07:41 PM Grapeking 06-11-2008, 07:49 PM SuperAvant 06-12-2008, 08:15 AM |
