Oddysey PC925 the best bet? Question is, if the PC925 is the most suitable replacement, do I need any extra components or is it a direct fit?
The others I have noted or read of are Duralast, Interstate MTP-91, or Autozone 48-DL.
Not at all worried about weight, a few extra pounds won't kill the car, I'm a lightweight. Thanks!

Hey Seth -

Cost was around $115, IIRC - about $100 for the battery, and ~$15 for disposal of the original if you bring it in.
The case size is smaller (not as wide, i.e. shorter left-to-right) than OEM, so I bought a small clamp from World Impex that makes use of a threaded hole exposed due to the smaller battery. I can pass on the Audi p/n for the clamp if you go that route.

Not saying it is the 'best' option, but another viable alternative for you. Has worked great for me.

Also, make sure you retain the vent tube, and leave it routed back by the firewall, as from the factory. The DieHard has a fitting that adapts to it perfectly.

HTH!

Consumer reports rated the "Duralast" battery as decent.

I put one in the A6 ~$65. Autozone. warranty etc....

Even had the vent tubes, elbows etc.....

So far so good 4 months.....

AofN wanted $157 for a direct replacement but I think that's outragous. Sounds like most need that bracket that you speak of. I have pages and pages of stuff I've printed out on the options. Why is there never an easy answer (=.
Did you ever have a battery in either car die on you or did you replace it proactively?

My symptoms were slow to turn over, radio may have gone into safe mode on the A4, Driver Info Displays reset to zero on both I think.

Also, you should do the manual (manual being non- VAG tool, unless you have one) throttle body adaptation. You can peruse the archives for the details, because they escape me right now...I could find what I printed off if you need it.

And the radio code - make sure you have it, or one of those things that plugs into the 12v power socket to provide temporary power. I got lucky on my S4 - I don't have the code, but the radio retained it's memory for the short few minutes or so the car had no battery.

I do recall AoN quoting me some [outrageous] figure for a battery replacement when I called them.
The pitch was that they did the throttle body adaption and "checked/cleared any codes", etc.

So yes, not usually an easy answer, but at least we have options!

I think it went like this: after the new battery is connected, just turn the ignition key forward to 'on' (last one before start) for a couple of minutes. You will hear some whining and clcking noises from the throttle body area. Turn the key back, remove, you are all set.

However, I think it is supposed to be done at temps above 5 Celcius and below (?) - due to expanding/contracting metal surfaces, most likely.

at Autozone last night for $65 and replaced it this morning. The S4 is running fine again. I just have to hunt down my radio code but luckily I think I remember right were I put it. Thanks again!

Direct replacement.

In our A6Qavant ('99) there was quite the space in their for a much WIDER battery than the "Stock" unit. The tray had adjustment holes lined up for several widths. I just reused the OEM foot wedge thingy.
