View Full Version : valet at Ruth's Chris in Boston last night wouldn't stop talking to me about my car...

now, while I love talking cars w/ just about anyone, anywhere at any time my wife doesn't really share my enthusiasm. we pulled up for our 8:30 reservations (for our anniversary no less) and the kid came right over. First words out of his mouth were "damn, your car is gorgeous, what have you done to it?" My wife didn't even get out of the car yet and she was already shaking her head :) I tried to give him a quick rundown of everything on the car so I could hurry up and get inside since my wife was freezing. I guess he has a G35 coupe and has been looking around for a B6 S4 for a little while now. He said he didn't know if he wanted to spend that much money but hearing my car come down the street pretty much made up his mind. Now, my main concern and the biggest thought going through my head right now is the Ferrari/parking garage scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off since the kid almost wet himself over the car! A quick $10 tip before I walked away got it a spot right in front of the restaraunt where it stayed until I was done (I know because I checked the mileage). When we were leaving he asked if I'd consider selling it so I through out a number and gave him my card... and the more I thought about his reaction to my car on the ride home the more I realized how much I really do love this car. I honestly think that even if he called (which I doubt he will anyway) and offered me my asking price (which is pretty high) I don't think I could sell it. I think I'll get it detailed this week and then start shopping for a new set of wheels for the spring :)

thanks for letting me waste your time for a few minutes while I cleared a few thoughts out of my head!

Regarding valet parking, I am so paranoid about having my car dinged my a careless valet that I haven't had my A4 valet parked in a couple of years.

My previous employer had a parking lot that had some spaces which needed to be staffed by a valet and it pained me any day that I had to use one of those spaces. I always hated seeing my car in a different space than I left it.

Glad you didn't spend more time talking to the valet about your S4 or it might have been your last anniversary dinner. ;-)

Fortunately, I, too, got a spot right in front.

Maybe it's time to invest in valet mode for the ECU.

My first time there, and it was far better than my expectations. We har reserved the Vault downstairs, and had an exceptional meal...all 12 of us.

Was there on Saturday night on my 540i picking up some gift certificates. One of the guys commented on the nice car, and started to talk car shop with me.

Was there the previous week with a friend that came into town, and was on the RS6. Same thing.

I was surprised the first time, however once I got the same talk the second time, I knew they were reeling me in to tip big!!!

I'm sure you have a great car nonetheless. Valet kids are just getting smarter these days.

the wrx owner valet jumped infront of the guy going for my keys. tried to act all polite, then as i was smoking outside waiting for my table i saw the car go around three times and could hear the milltek screaming through the buildings. That was the second time at RC's that my S4's have been abused. first time was my b5 in Boca, listening to the valet run all the way through third and missing the shift into fourth(on a 30mph road). he was sent home and my meal was comp'd. No more ruth's valet's for me.

a great movie scene - funny how that comes to mind in these situations, right? Just hope the guy didn't say "I'm a professional, relax...." like in the movie. :-)

to get it to the spot in front... I walked up to the door, let my wife in and stood on the steps until I saw the car come back down the street and stop. He pulled away nice and slow and I didn't hear the car at all so I feel ok that he didn't beat the bag out of it.

he made the mistake of telling me that he looked at one at a dealer and they were asking $39,500 but he told me how much nicer mine was... I told hiim that's what I would take for mine! He seemed like a good enough kid but also like the type of kid that if you add up what the mods cost in front of him you'll have no problem justifying a higher than normal price. Hell, for $40k he can come pick it up today.

Freedom Trail room.

a good enough tip with the valet means you can usually park your car yourself and they never have to touch it :)

I go to PF Changs alot and the valet knew us very well. no matter when we pulled up he would grab the keys to whatever was out font, move it and let us park our cars there. a lot of the time I would let him park it after I had been there enough to trust him to to just that.. park the car, not drive it around the block. The only 2 cars that he never parked were my Esprit and my Viper. I pulled up in the Viper and he just looked at me and said "I'll move this, why don't you park your car?" Nice guy... parking was $10, he got $20 from me every time I saw him. Not the biggest tip in the world but he appreciated it and for a while I was there 2 or 3 times a week.

BTW: did you get your RS4 at Ira? I saw a black one getting delivered one day when I was there w/ my father looking at A8's for him for the winter.

Seriously, how much change does he have to rob out of cars to afford 30 to 40k rides? Hehe j/k

I saw a valet doing LAPs at Pier 4, in a Jag s type R. Sounded great with the auto tranny, no shifts to miss before he got canned by the boss.

Then when he hit the throttle he said to himself... "Toto, were not in Kansas anymore."
