The bill u got in April was the calculation for the remainder of 2004 when you owned your A4. The new bill will cover you for all of 2005. Are you in a ritzy town by chance?
I found this out when I titled an out of state car in MASS last Nov. I thought they were double billing me. Unless you title cars on Jan2, you will get the double bill that will set off your red flags.

Guess it makes sense. I'm looking at the first bill I got, which is valued my car at $16,800 and they charge $25 per $1000 valued.
They now value my car at $30,250, same rate of $25 per $1000 valued. :(
At least my birthday is next week...hopefully i'll get some good $$ to help me pay this or get me chipped, hehe =)
Just sucks when something like this surprises you in the mail and then you gotta drop $800 on a tax bill :-/

Their formula is totally whacky; it goes down quickly by model year. With an 05, it is highest. An 04 drops a big chunk, than an 03 and 02 are the next noticeable drops. After that, it is fractionally smaller. The 2nd year of a car, the bill is half of the 1st year(super high). The third year it is about half the second year was. Then that formula becomes less the case. The first three years are killer

I just brought a 1991 track car to MA, and I can't wait to get the excise bill

http://yuppieracing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=568&highlight=excise</a

You have 2 cars in that bill I presume. The 01 TT has to be less by now.
I guess Romney never got that initiative going to drop the excise tax

That means my B6 S4 payment was around $1200, IIRC. Good times.
