I just got a 98 2.8qm a4 and i have been trying to decide realistically what size rims and what suspension and how low to take it for this region. I like in NH so the roads are usually in ****ty condition all year round. Any suggestions on what is a good suspension set up and what size rims to get. As i said, i am new to this, so im not doing autocross. Eventually i might take it somewhere to really learn to drive it, but for now im just crusing.

Winter is comming up - i should probably wait till spring or later to do this or it doesn't matter?

I think that 17's is the largest wheel you want for NE roads. I had a set of 18's on my car for a couple of months, and the ride was harsh. Also, I think that 17's look great on the A4.

As far as suspension, I am assuming that you have the stock suspension, and want to lower it for a more agressive look? If so, I would recommend Bilstein Sport shocks and H&R Sport springs. Nice combo, just the right balance of stiffness and comfort over the roads. After a few months of use, maybe a tad too harsh for Boston driving, but great for my everyday drive from Lexington to Lynn.

Hopefully, some of the local A4 guys will chime in. miannotti69 just had a new suspension put on his A4 (B5), not sure the combo.

Got Bilstien/Vogtland setup on my 12v B5 and love it so far. I'm in southern nh so not all the roads suck, but as long as your not running into potholes its not a big deal. The ride's much stiffer coming from stock non-sport, but it is not uncomfortable. I think the feel overall is much more sporty and solid even just cruising around.

After this winter I'm going to get some 17s or 18s.
