View Full Version : Got a ticket going 20 over on 495, what do you guys think I should do. Nkugs90 02-04-2003, 06:17 AM State police officer got me. I am definitely going to fight it. I am also getting a V1 radar detector. Stratocaster1422 02-06-2003, 08:30 AM i did the same thing on 290...I couldn;t get out of the speeding but I got out of my "unsafe lane change." MFZERO 02-06-2003, 11:46 AM Eggie 02-11-2003, 03:36 AM Not only is there a fine but then its 2 points on your license, no safe driver deduction of one point per year if you had an surchargable event in that year. Besides you can ONLY lose one point per year. For six yearsa you will carry those points. FYI on my insurance 2 points is ~$120 EACH YEAR!! You will go through a hearing first and 9/10 times they still find you guilty unless the officer admits a foul up. Then you will go to court (a later date). Here the specific officer how gave you the ticket MUST show up (the hearing can be an officer representing the department that gave you the ticket). If they no show then you totally skate. If you have a case to plead, here is where you do it and hope for a reduction, dismissal or hopefully dropped to a warning But, its not just the cost of the ticket, over 6 years it could be ticket +$720!!! maace 02-15-2003, 08:42 AM I got caught doing 65 in a 40 on 1A by something called LIDAR and chose the hearing option instead of paying. The court date was 2 months later and it was just a room with a bunch of people trying to get out of their ticket too. They had one representative for the police district, whatever where you got your ticket...actual cop doesn't have to show up for this. I pretty much said "I don't think I was doing 65, it was rush hour at 9AM?!" They asked how fast I thought I was going and I said 45...so they said they would reduce it to $100(original $225) but asked if I wanted to appeal it in court. If you appeal and you lose, you pay full price, if you win you get off of it all. I'm sure most people win(cop doesn't show up you win right off) so it's all up to you how far you want to try to get out of it. I was just happy they reduced it, didn't want to drag it out. Clout 02-17-2003, 10:34 PM i drive to and from hopkinton to the cape pretty much every weekend over the summer and usually cruise well over the speed limit because cops are scarse on that section. nauticacomp 02-18-2003, 07:12 AM i got a 83 in a 55 on rte 95. i dont care about the fine. i just care about the possible points. maace 02-28-2003, 10:07 PM Haven't gotten any points yet, my insurance renews in June/July...I hope I don't. I'm sdip 14 right now. Sdip 9...pipe dream. |
