hey guys, i'm having some trouble with my washer fluid system. Anyone help me out?
I was in breck this week (great snow, it was awesome) and went to drive home and my washer fluid wouldn't spray (but the low fluid light never came on) so filled it up and no luck nothing sprayed out. hour later in denver (was warmer but still below freezing), they suddenly started working. Got to the in-laws, parked and work up next morning and saw a puddle of wiper fluid on the ground, res is completely empty (at least upper part is)... And i've now noticed that my headlights won't wash at all but the res is holding fluid now.

Long story short, how can i troubleshoot my headlight washers? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
P.S. anyone got a stock shift nob cover for my 5spd B6?

What I did was pop the line off the pump (be ready with a plug) and then pressurize the line with my compressor. I could see the lines flexing all the way to the nozzles, but nothing came out. I disconnected the lines and sure enough, fluid came out so I knew it was the nozzles. It was a serious PITA to get them unplugged. I still have no idea what caused them to plug but I used a combo of the following.

Ball Needle (like for filling a football) - I used it like a lance and stuck it in from the 'in' side of the nozzle and just tried to blow it out good.

Needle (sewing) - Used this on the 'out' side to make sure they were clear. You'll also want this of one of those dental pick tools for realigning your nozzles when done.

Brake Cleaner - I hooked a tube up to the nozle and filled it with brake cleaner and let it soak a while. Figured it might loosen things up, but there are probably more effective fluids. Goo Gone jumps to mine now.

High Pressure - I hooked a line up to my compressor and hit the nozzle with short bursts of 100 psi to force the issue. This was probably the most effective, but the other stuff probably helped.

It sounds like you might have a different problem, but maybe these would give you an idea. If nothing else, maybe someone with MY problem will search the forum in the future and find this. ;-)

Let me know if you want help looking at it!

Hi chuck,
thanks for the reply! Fortunatly my windshield nozzles are working now, but maybe i'll try that with the headlight line. I'm guessing those nozzles pop up/work off of pressure and maybe there is a block in that line and perhaps that's what keeping them from working at all.

You wouldn't happen to know the details on the headlight washers would you?

thanks!!

p.s. good luck with the paint job
