I got locked out of the A6 -no immobilizer- at work today. The part that connects the lock cylinder to the electrical switch / latch busted. I had the valet key (wife had remote switchblade at work about 1 hr away). Managed to get in the car but the valet key wouldn't disarm the alarm after several attempts in the ignition.
Paid $110 for a plain Jane key from the stealer. That was the discount price after I complained that www.genuinevwaudiparts.com would sell a cut switchblade for ....
"Cut key - List $60.00, our price $50.40"
Stealer wanted $200 for a complete switchblade fob. They were nice enough to offer a "discount" by removing the $40 cut charge.
Looks like the only difference between regular and valet is the depth of the ridges on the outer, skinny edges.
I am pretty sure you can get generic keys cut at Home Depot for $1. No wonder there is a lawsuit.
