Ok,ive had A4's for a while and never an A6 so am new to this. I have a 2001 A6 2.7t with 17 inch BBS wheels and 225/45/17's. Went to get new shoes put on and we found out that I have about an 1/8th of an inch or less between the worn tires and the strut. So new ones are basically touching. These cars had 16's on them originally i believe and had more of a 205-50-16 i think. We narrowed it down to having a 215-50-17 (I think) put on them and my tire options soon became more slim. Here are my thoughts.....

Anyone in Colorado have 16 in BBS's and want a set of 17"s? Or even a stock pair or 16's or something that would like to work out some sort of trade or something? I just want to get a non low pro tire on here for my winter driving and have more tire options. Im open to any suggestions you all may have. Sorry for the jumpled post, just walked in the door and headed straight for the computer.

will not clear the brakes (unless the spoke pattern bows out quite a bit). Keep the BBS'. What is your offset and wheel width? You can always use a small spacer for additional clearance.

Did you try a new tire on your wheels and then test fit the wheel to the car?

Get these? Also, the car came with 16's so I dont know if the brakes would be an issue. but who knows.Thanks for the input.

Also, anyone have a good "ballpark" for an oil leak from the cam adjuster? Dealer quoted $1300sih.

wheels. I run BBS RC 17 X 8s as summer wheels but I think the offset is different then the RCs on your car: They stick out more and are basically flat instead of dished. Sounds like you need a smaller tire or spacers for the 17s. For the 16s (Winter wheels)I have the stock ones for the 01 sport package like the ones on the car in this link. They tuck in more and are narrower. Shouldn't take more than an hour to a couple hours.

There's one specialty tool 'needed' for an easy job. It's to compress the adjuster so you can lift it without pulling one of the cams. I've done it without before, it's an easy job, but I'm guessing most shops would charge a minimum of 400.

You might have original factory BBS wheels or you might have aftermarkets.

What spare wheel is in the trunk well?

IIRC, the factory 17" BBS package came with a donut spare. The 16" stock wheel came with a 5th identical alloy wheel.

I thought 235/45 was the tire of choice back then...it's what I run (albeit on S6 wheels)

My 16" original wheels came with 215/55-16. The non-sport 2.7T came with "5 spoke" wheels. Here are some other wheel tidbits from my experience: (Note PST and PSK are the equipment codes for two different "sport" packages.)
