Alright folks, a good friend of mine from the Vortex community is interested in moving up in vehicle size and would possibly like an Allroad.

What he has: an IMPECCABLY maintained and detailed Black/Tan Cloth, 5 speed, 2000 Jetta TDI. It is amazingly clean and it needs absolutely nothing, he just wants to move into something with more room.

What he wants: An Allroad in similar condition. Preferably 6 speed (Long shot, I know) and preferably something that isn't due for a timing belt any time in the near future. If it is a tiptronic, something with an extended warranty would be nice...or something that has a history of transmission services or full replacement.

A quick look through Craigslist shows that they are worth "similar" money, so he is looking for a straight swap, but he may be willing to talk cash (up or down) for the right deal.

Let me know what you think or what you have.

the world is a crazy place sometimes. Talk about depreciation mismatch.

but they are a lot closer than I would have thought.

Edmunds Private Party sale values.

2001 allroad 2.7T - $9,791

2000 VW Jetta TDI GLS - $7,049

...and I did say "Similar money". Craigslist turn up multiple 2001 Allroads that range from $10k to $12.5k and very few 2000-2002 TDI Jettas that range between $8k and $12k.

The Jetta in question is just about as nice as you would find and he realizes that it would take some cash to get into an Allroad in similar condition.

Just seeing what's out there and trying to help a friend convert to the four rings.
