This is not my posting (anyone know this guy)--just a PSA for someone here jonesing for an A4 Avant on the cheap if they have the mad garage mechanic skills... as in engine install skills ;)

The car is at Sport Wheels in Glenwood and I have talked to John. John and I go way back with the UrQ stuff, so I trust his opinion (to an extent). He claims its decent car, but it will probably need more than just a motor. It has the usual tell tale signs of a "Cheap" owner, like the blank, generic, white oil filter. The oil on the dip stick looks like sludge, so count on a turbo and going through the head too. Tires are PAST the wear bars and while they can't drive it to see, they would bet money it's needs a clutch. The actual problem with the motor is a broken rod. It did not ventilate the block, but they can manually push a piston down with a screwdriver.

FWIW, this is it's second posting on CL and I responded to his first ad when he was asking $6k!!! After he got the estimate from Sport Wheels, he instantly sent me an e-mail saying he would take $4k. If it dipped below $3k, I might bite, but it sounds like it's going to need a lot of parts and I don't really have the time for it.
