I need my TB, water pump and thermostat done but still can't decide if I should take it in our DIY with Tanman...

but the finance guy in me did the math and the risk was about 3:1.

ie: if i did it myself and f-ed it up, it would cost me 3 times the price of just taking in in the first place.

that's more financial risk that i'll bite off professionally, so i had it done.

it was $1300 out the door, but the timing belt stuff was $850. the seals, sbub and fan kit ate up the rest but badly needed to be done, i was leaking oil out the back something fierce.

all better now. all the leaky seals were replaced. the power feels a touch better (fan kit) and the snub was much needed - absolutely amazing difference in the drivetrain slack. i should have done the snub 40k ago when i bought the car.

money well spent to me. and i'll continue to give asw my business. they continue to impress.

they said the belt was pretty warn and the waterpump was making a bad clicking noise when they turned it by hand.

so i'm glad i did mine when i did

I will forsure let ya know. Need to find out if my bro will let me use his garage ;-). I would like to buy beer and pizza rather than paying $500 bucks in labor. Plus I would like to have the knowledge and pleasure of knowing I did it myself!

I will keep ya posted!

Thanks again!

I'm actually quite impressed that it was only 1300. Now all I need to do is pick up a new turbo and have them toss that on and complete the full maint. Will be going on my second TB here soon as I'm at 125k.

esp for all the work i had done. major engine seals and maintainence work for $1300 out the door??

not bad in my mind and certainly something i wouldnt tackle on my own (cam seals, head gasket, rear main seal etc)
