$77.50 for using the HOV lane on I-25. On sunday the 27th the wife, her girlfriend and I were on our way home from Downtown. I used the Express Toll lane on the HOV. Apparently, if you use this lane and don't have a transponder you will get a ticket with a MANDATORY court appearance. We got one today, court is not until Dec. 11th, $77.00 plus the $.50 toll. I despise E-470 and now have a new reason to not use the HOV lanes onI-25 either.

one for carpool/Motorcycles and one for transponders. Since you had a carful you should have been in the other lane. :)

It does suck, but it is cheaper for the city than having the equipment or a person manning a tollbooth. Plus it would kind of defeat the purpose of it if everyone had to stop and pay.

You should be able to contest it, I assume they have a photo of the "violation" and should drop it, but they may ding ya

talked to someone familliar with this BS, he said they are sending out so many tickets for this violation, they are running 3 to 4 months behind. Can't ignore it either.

Back on the 13th of Sept. I posted about a ticket we got on the HOV/Toll lane on I-25. Since recieving that first notice on the 13th, I have now recieved two more notices for the same violation. The first one came via regular mail, the next two via Fedex.

So today I finally called and raised hell with the idiots at CTE (Colorado Tolling Enterprise). Here is some really stupid logic, but to the state, it is good logic??

Okay, if you are NB or SB on the I-25 HOV/Toll lane, and you go through the Toll Only reader without a transponder, you will be fined $77.00 plus $7.00 plus the amount of the fee, varies. But if you use the HOV lane, you are okay. This is irregardless of how many people are in the vehicle.

Now here is the lunacy of it all. If you buy a transponder for your vehicle, and drive these lanes daily, and as a single occupant in the vehicle, with the transponder, you use the HOV only lane, nothing will happen to you. Unless CSP catches you. They will not deduct from your account, they will not take a picture of your license, nothing, and you will never be fined, unless CSP catches you.

While discussing this matter with the morons with CTE, the woman on the phone ( a Stupidvisor) admitted that I am correct, this is a problem. She also admitted that they have mailed out several hundred of these fines for the exact same violation. She also admitted that roughly 40% of the people who get these fines fight them. The best she could offer me to fight the citation is to reduce it from $77.50 to $7.50 otherwise I have to go to court. Well, on principle I refused to pay it, and will now go to court on Dec. 11th. I also talked to a friend who works at Adams County Court, she said that on a daily basis they get 5 to 10 people coming to court for this same violation. It would seem to me, that perhaps there is something rotten here, and somewhere within the state gov't there are some really dumb people.

BTW, I am also setting up a paypal account to take money for my bail. When I go to court on Dec. 11th, unless they dismiss the charges, I will refuse to pay the fine, and advise the judge that I would prefer to go to jail rather than pay for the stupidity of the state.

http://forums.audiworld.com/rockymtn/msgs/72503.phtml</a
