I am posting this in part to praise my Audi and in part to put to rest the fact that Audi competitors (BMW fans) use this board to discredit the reliability of the A4. I have 24,000 miles on my A4 and have been running a chip in it for 23K of those miles. The engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, etc. have all been flawless and of the utmost quality.
I used to own an Acura Integra and still own a Honda Accord so I know the Japanese cars well. This German car so far outclasses those cars it isn't even funny.
The only problem that I can really mention is the center armrest was squeaking until I went in for regular maintenance. Dealer fixed the problem ASAP and hasn't returned.
Anyone worrying about the reliability of the A4 and using this forum to read complaints had better understand that the people on this board are fanatics (me included) and obsess about their cars. If someone notices their door creaking in an odd sort of way, they will quickly report it here. And that is great! But don't use that type of information against the A4. Any reliability issues that are expressed here, and there are some, are generally isolated occurences. When people do have genuine problems they seem to get addressed by the factory and associated dealerships rather quickly.
Thanks for letting me vent. I have been getting frustrated with the 'why did you buy an A4 when you could have gotten a BMW' post.
By the way, I have firm plans to keep my A4 for 200,000 miles or 8 years, which ever comes first.

1.2 years old with 17k miles and still feels like I just drove it out of the dealership for the first time. Looks and feels like it's new. What a great ride !!! Break dust is getting better and mileage is up to 22 in the city. It sure has been fun in the rain and am looking forward to some snow. Yee Ha.

6 weeks ago I bought a 98.5 2.8 QMS Avant Black and it is the only car that I have ever purchased that had zero defects upon delivery. No problems at all. The build quality is incrediable. My friend just purchased a Mercedes Benz ML320 and it had several major factory defects (still it is a very nice car/truck.) But I degress, this car is wonderful and to all those BMW owners, I don't have the "Gold Chains and Butterfly Collars" stigma to deal with. Love my A4!!!! Thanks Jet for the great site.

'Gold chain stigma?' maybe not
but you are quickly getting a different stigma and its not good!
p.s. better hurry and debadge and get those groovy clear side markers
that show what an A4 owner is all about.
go get 'em-its raining and the stoplight just turned green..........

...but your posts almost always seem to be reactionary slams on Audi and A4 owners. BMW's are great cars in my opinion, and I'd consider owning one if I lived in a year-round warm weather climate, or wanted separate good-weather and bad-weather/winter cars. But I live in Minnesota, and I want one nice car that's fun to drive in any conditions, so the A4 Quattro is my choice.
When it's raining, or snowing for that matter, I do like to drive hard, knowing the traction capability of my car (though I try to keep it safe). It's fun, like snowmobiling or mountain biking. And yes, I take pride in the fact that my car is more capable than most in adverse conditions.
Up to now my modifications have been performance oriented (suspension, exhaust), but I'm considering cosmetic changes like white-faced gauges and a wood shift knob. I just think they look cool, and reflect my personal taste.
If you're really here to decide whether or not to get an A4, you might be better served by trading useful information (you seem like a knowledgeable guy) than by ripping on A4 owners who are just guilty of liking their cars.
Rich D.
98.0 A4 2.8QM, H&R/Koni, K&N, Stebro cat-back
My A4 2.8qm will turn 60k today!
It is still as great as day 1, even better now with modifications!
Since no car is perfect, I just accept that the occasional part and wear out item will need replacement.
I think some people have legitimate grievances but overall, I see too much complaining about minor problems that happen on pretty much every car manufactured of ALL price ranges.
I find myself getting tired of all the negativity...even tough I know people sometimes need to vent. It reminds me of how you get tired of old people complaining about their ailments. Yeah, I feel lousy but why bring everyone else down!
I love my car....it's been great! I plan to keep it for a very long time and maybe add a new car to the stable down the line.
Happy Motoring!
-C.

A take a 100 mile dose of my A4 every morning. Seems to work better than any other recreational drug I have ever tried!

Can't tell you how much I love this car. Got one of the first batches of A4s' to hit the states back in '95. Less than 500 miles left before I hit 60,000. Never gave me a problem AND it gets driven into NYC!
I used to own a '91 Coupe Quattro and the dealer used to scream at me for driving it too hard. I've had numerous suspension parts replaced, even have three banged up rims sitting in the basement. It looked so sporty I thought I could drive it hard. Drove it so hard, it gave up on me.
Not with the A4. I've pushed this car hard and it won't quit, never... ever.
I think this forum is superb. I can understand some of the gripes that people may have like i did with the Coupe Quattro. BUT, I still chose to buy another Audi. This time, Audi has rewarded me generously with one of the coolest cars on the road.
Sometimes, I make my sister (i make her drive it cause she's just naturally a super slow driver) drive my car while I drive her Ford Taurus just so I can see what my car looks like! It's hard to express what it feels like to watch YOUR OWN car at 3/4 rear angle with its muscular front fender and svelt sleek lines gobbling up asphalt!
Bottom Line: I love this car AND everyone else's. Already got two of my friends to get one - almost got my mother to get an A8, darn. Spread the word, it can only help us.
