What ever happened to rear view mirrors and maps? It constantly amazes me at how easy we are making it for people to drive, the skill and ability have gone out of it. Now, any moron who can afford the sticker and fuel can drive anything on four wheels, heck 18 wheels if you can cheat on the tests properly (COLORADO DMV, YOU SUCK). I recently test drove a Ford F-350 equipped with back sensors. My first comment to the salesman on the test drive, how do I disconnect this damn thing.

It's amazing, I back up a 70' semi into loading docks that were often not designed for a truck that long on a daily basis all with the use of two eyeballs and two mirrors, heck more often than not it's only one mirror with the other one blocked, occasionally it's done with smoke and mirrors. In 8 years I haven't hit anything yet.
Nav systems? My company uses a routing software for qouting rates, otherwise, every truck has a huge Denver Regional map book, and us 5 OTR drivers also have a Motor Carriers Atlas, and in my case about two dozen smaller folding maps for various cities. And when that fails, there is always the cell phone or pay phone.

waiting for me to back in the 5-er. One of them said it took them 30 minutes to back in a car hauler a week before and they wanted to laugh and see me screw it up too. Well, I showed those little buggers. Backed from the street through a 90-degreee onto my 3rd car slab that goes backside along the house from the street to the back edge of the house about 80'. Nailed it the first time - put the tires right on the marks I use. I stepped out of the truck and they were all doing the "we're not worthy" bow. LOL
