So a few months ago I bought a superb 1990 Jetta Coupe-tastic. It is a wonderful car, I love driving it, it's economical, but I am going crazy.
I am ready to move on. I don't think I can have a coupe right now. I need more doors.
So while staying close to cost on the Jetta for the last week I have been researching some "older" Audis.
I think I would like to look for a nice 90 Quattro, non 6 cylinder as I am trying to keep the cost between $2500 - $3500 (the lower the better). I spen a fair amount of time searching the 90 forums and like any older car, caveat emptor.
What do my trusty AudiWorld cohorts think? Of course I don't think I could do anything until I sell the coupe, but I do know I want a 4 door and I would love to get back into AWD lovin.
So am I we todd did or what?

The most annoying problem is the radiators with plastic endcaps that snap off while changing hoses. Replace it with an all metal 4kq unit and forget about it. The only other issue may be a heater core. Be ready to do it yourself if it ever needs one, many shops and dealers simply will not do them anymore. It's an all day project, but it really isn't that hard.

I've seen several in the $1000 range. Might be a good 4-door winter driver, and you can afford a sportier car for nice driving days.
The driver of a relatively stock looking 4000CS beat all of the other turbo Quattro cars at the ACNA Steamboat autocross, if I recall.

Ha, yeah it's just me. I tend to have about the same batting average as Jon when it comes to going through cars. :)
I have been reading the 90 forum. I think I would be plenty happy with an older 5cyl 90 Q. Manual of course.
I just posted the coupe for sale on craigslist and is already up on RMCB5. Of course if I post in on vortex I'm gonna get a lot of flack. :)

I would be open to it. This car would be my DD for about the next year. With that I need it to be reliable, I understand with a 10 - 20 year old car you're bound to have some issues.
Then, maybe it can become my winter beater and get a nicer car. However, wedding and house are my number 1 and number 2 financial priority so i am stuck with what I can afford for a car.

My wallet is the one who is against the V6 ;) And my gas bill!
I LOOOOOOOOOOVED my 2.7T A6, abd I would love another V6, but I am all about budget right now.
All the V6's seem to be around $5K+, too rich for my blood right now.

...they're certainly doable for $3500-$4000 with around 100-120k mi. I'd say $2500-$3000 for over 150k.
Champagne has a nice burgundy <A HREF="http://www.autotrader.com/redirect/redirect.jsp?to_url=/dealers/view/vdetail.jsp?productWebsite=champagne&car_id=176056224&mis=IVNLBDLNDS59&dealer_id=576252">'95 90 quattro</A> they've had for a few months...119k...asking $5k (not a bad starting point). Plus it's a really late '95 (one of the last ones to hit US shores - which is a good thing). I stopped and looked at it a month or so ago...nice looking/seems to be in good shape.
Also, a '90/'91 90 quattro 20V is rated at 17 city/24 highway, whereas a '94/'95 90 quattro is rated at 19 city/24 highway... :o)

<A HREF="http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=169154718">1994 90 CS quattro sport</A> - this one's been on Auto Trader for at least 6+ months - at least worth a call to see if the price has been lowered.
<A HREF="http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=179198034">1993 90 CS quattro</A> this one just got listed, but, for $2700-$3000 (if it's in good shape) wouldn't be a bad deal.

Yeah, I love your coupe. I even posted recently how I would have loved to have gotten it instead of the Jetta. However, things changed fast and no go.
