View Full Version : Found this very interesting article on Edmunds.com about the Car Selling process (long) Vanimaniac 11-01-2003, 12:38 PM I wish I had read this before going to the dealership to get my wifes Mazda.

Confessions of a Car Salesman

Chrisfast 11-01-2003, 02:21 PM I know that some Audi and BMW dealerships are like this, but on a whole, they are not. I can't believe the literary reject who wrote that article got angry because sales people were making their living by commission. Guess what, it's not just car sales that are commission based. When was the last time anyone bought something from Circuit City? And then he mocks another dealership for saying, "The most important thing is to take care of the customer, not sale the car." Since when was this a bad thing? Not that I ever had much respect for Edmunds, but now I have none. The guy who wrote that was so busy knocking the dealerships that he forgot to mention that the owners of those very dealerships are multi-millionaires. I'm not in any way condoning high pressure dealerships, but next time I go see a doctor or lawyer I am going to see how far I get trying to negotiate with them. The guy who wrote that article is a bumbling idiot. Vanimaniac 11-01-2003, 06:35 PM I enjoyed working with her. However, she quit to take another job just after I finished the paperwork on my car and I didn't really appreciate this other guy who dealt with me for a whole 10 minutes urging me to give him tens on his evaluation. someone at the autocross (Michael with the Acura TL I think) told me you work with the Audi dealership in the springs right? If so I was kinda wondering what the people in the car sales field felt about that article. It actually seemed to me that at the end of the article he wasn't knocking the salesman so much as the sales managers and the like. Oh well. Like the article or not I thought it was interesting. |
