greetings from Chicago! I'm gonna be driving through next week and need a decent hotel or resort type of joint to stay midweek for a night or two. I'm on vacation with teh gf so some place nice would suffice, maybe even in front of the beach (damn, it's been a while since I've seen the pacific ocean), and won't hurt the wallet too much (since by that time I would've spent a good amount of my vaca budget after NorCal and wine country and I'd still have Vegas as the next and final stop before flying back to chicago). I thought about the Hotel Del Coronado but not sure if want to spend that kind of coin ($500 per night) just for a room with an ocean view. Any ideas on places that may have some good midweek deals? I'm even open to places in LJ, PB, or Mission Bay or anywhere in that vicinity. Thanks all.

it's a brand new hotel and you can walk to a lot of places from there.

The Hotel Del is really nice, but it is pricey. It may not be worth the price for you. I agree with the above, the omni is good. Then, you could always visit the Hotel Del and walk around on the beach as it is a short drive. As for places to eat , what kind of food do you like?

got any other ideas? like a fun place to eat, drink and be merry on a thursday night for someone's birthday? also what are the good clubs these days in SD? I haven't been to the area for over 4 years so I'm sure a lot has changed.

Definitely have sunset drinks at the Top ot the Hyatt bar at Seaport Village. Maybe even stay at that hotel...?

how 'bout the Catamaran? Gives you access to Mission Bay and is across the street from the beach.

...and there's always The Lodge at Torrey Pines.
