if it was somewhat bright outside I'd lower my windows (also cos I just like driving with the windows down as it is...), but I didn't drive with the windows down all the time... I live in the Santa Monica/Bretwood area and would drive out to the valley on weekends...
i think for cars like yours (S4's, M3s, etc...) the police don't really target if there's just dark tint on it. usually you gotta be driving stupid or have other things wrong on it for them to stop you. they target the rice rockets for these sorts of things most often.
though I did get pulled over for no-front plate in Culver City- the officer said nothing about my tint though. of course I rolled the windows down when pulled over.
now if you have front windshield tinted, that may be another ballgame altogether- have rarely seen a car with that here in LA, it would most definitely stand out.

front license plate. The cop mentioned the tint but said he wouldn't ticket because he himself had tint on his ride.

but i don't think it's something they'll pull you over for exclusively. When i got stopped, they hit me up for speeding, front window tints, and no front plates. Basically fix-it tix for tint and front plate. got off of speeding b/c i went to court and the cop didn't show. Got pulled over on the 10W by the 26th st exit. bastages.

Ya many people I know have gotten tickets. I would roll them down if you see a cop, before he sees you. I've gotten rolled before, but got let go, he was nice...other cops arent so cool, it just depends.
