Read just this past weekend that the law is changing and after it does, it WON'T be illegal to mount a GPS to the windshield. Don't recall the timeframe of that change tho.

Senate Bill 1567 added an exemption for the use of a seven-inch GPS screen mounted on in the lower corner of the passenger-side windshield or a five-inch screen on the driver's side.

Edit: Thanks for the correction meem.

Senate Bill 1567

Usually Law Changes before July Take effect on the next January, and changes before January (but after July) take effect on July 1st. (Although as with anything in California, your Mileage will vary).

They are now dirt cheap. Wiring harnesses are available to make the whole operation Plug & Play replacement with existing stereo head unit. Nothing goes on the windshield

The Navigation is good. Stereo is great - better than stock. They have complete OE feel and will help resale value.
