Picked up my car after its 5K service at Rector (service advisor was Roger Grey, very nice guy, got the tech sheet for Thunderhill done no problem and wished me luck).
While waiting for the car to be brought around, I spotted a Porsche Carrera GT. Giving a $500,000 supercar a once over is not a bad way to wait. It was in because one of the carbon fiber undertray panels had cracked. Only a $17,500 part. All three add up to around $30K.
The license plate frame said warriorheart.org. Did a visit and that's for the Warrior Heart Foundation, set up by Steve Schimmel, Google employee #13. The Carrera GT was entered in this year's Gumball Rally, with signage for the foundation. Also on the Warrior Heart team, another early Google employee in a 911 Turbo.
And what do early Google employees do while their cars are being shipped to Europe? (found a video of this too...) You rent Thunderhill and practice with your teammate in a matching pair of red Ferrari F430s.
Ah, the joy of the mother of all liquidity events. Now if the start-up I'm with has a nice liquidity event, I can enter the Gumball. In a Fiat 500 (as someone did this year).
