View Full Version : Installation Error, Sniper, Bad Karma (Mountain View)

So I just barely turn on to Eastbound Central Expressway from Castro in Mountain View. I'm going approximately 20 mph. Hear a loud bang, and see that my passenger rear view mirror is now in the folded position, and the mirror itself has popped out. Pull over at the next light, and see that my hagus matte aluminum cover has a nice hole in it.

I left a police report with MVPD thinking somebody shot something at me (bb gun, airsoft rifle?). What could have happened?

Could some unseen stresses due to installation error have caused the mirror to fold and crack while I was driving? Mind you I've had them installed for almost 4 months now.

My most logical guess is that a sniper shot something at me. Seems to have been a automatic weapon. There are actually a bunch of dimples in the black plastic underneath the mirror cap. There are also dimples in the broken plastic pieces I retrieved when I took the mirror cap off. Only thing is that I find it difficult to believe that it would have enough force to actually fold my mirror. I could not find any pellets or bb's.

What the eff happened? First I bend and bubble one of my wheels/tires. Whats next!?!

A bullet/pellet if having enough force to fold your mirror in the first place would have punched a more concentric hole through it. And probably shattered the mirror itself.

My GF was driving her car in front of me.

a rock is much more likely.

Airsoft guns do not have that kind of force. Sure it hurts when you hit someone but doesn't normally even break the skin.

A Lead/Copper BB does generate a lot more force. However, if you stop a tin can, you will notice that the impact isn't as bad as that.

I would wager on a rock or some other solid object being kicked up from a near by car. That would have a lot more force behind it and could cause this kind of damage.

had on my front bumper after having a nice nugget sized piece of pavement kicked up by the car in front of me.

Tell your GF to avoid road debris at all costs. Make her feel bad then take her out for ice cream afterward.

Big lot, water paid for by the landlord, can work indoors if you like (not the washing part)
