View Full Version : OT: brunch suggestions in SF? BSOD 07-22-2005, 11:48 AM nothing fancy like champagne brunch buffets at Mark Hopkins/etc, just good simple fare. Blue DevilS4 07-22-2005, 12:14 PM they now do a fantastic brunch...by far the best BBQ around. Part of the menu: BBQ Brisket Hash topped with poached eggs served with choice of cheese grits, red beans, or rice South Carolina "Low Country" Shrimp and Grits our grits are from South Carolina, ground by folks who care as much about grits as we care about BBQ Red Beans and Rice with Andouille sausage topped with two fried eggs Omelette stuffed with Brisket Chili and Smoked Mozzarella topped with chipotle crema and served with grits or red beans Omelette stuffed with Smoked Chicken and Mushrooms served with choice of grits, red beans or rice House-Cured Bacon sensational -- cured for a week and smoked for 7 or 8 hours Gabby's ("the doyanne of dough") biscuits and sausage gravy yes, of course we make our own biscuits and sausage Corn Fritters a sweet fried doughy thing with powdered sugar

yummers!

im_cecil 07-22-2005, 12:23 PM Embarcadero: Town's End Noe Valley: Miss Millie's or Herb's Fine Foods Haight: Pork Store Cafe or Memphis Millie's (agree with Blue Devil) Richmond/Laurel Village: Ella's (not worth the wait on weekends, but weekdays are OK) Marina: Bechelli's is pretty good, but it's more of a breakfast/diner place than brunch Few other ideas, but tell us what you're looking for and where. ChesterY 07-22-2005, 12:46 PM Town's End is really popular, and I'll suggest, as an alternative, The Hi-Dive, next to Red's Java House. If they have their biscuits'n'gravy on the menu, don't miss it and count yourself lucky. BSOD 07-22-2005, 02:50 PM oh, and easy parking. Leaning more towards regular/American fare (eggs, potatoes, etc) than something like dim sum. Was looking at Beach Chalet, but hear it's ridiculously packed on weekend brunch, and they don't take reservations for less than 6. Thought about Town's End, but there's a Giants game at 1 the day I'm looking at, so it'll probably be pretty crowded around there then. ReyHey 07-22-2005, 03:16 PM ReyHey 07-22-2005, 03:17 PM FireBirdSC 07-22-2005, 03:21 PM unless you mean, new Chinatown :) AJG 07-22-2005, 03:30 PM 439 Powell St. (Sutter St.) San Francisco, CA 415-986-0700

Zagat

im_cecil 07-22-2005, 04:58 PM Actually, the parking restrictions are limited to a couple of hours, so Giants game-goers won't be fighting for them. Truthfully, I wouldn't worry too much about parking down there especially if it's late morning and you'll be leaving afterward. Beach Chalet is still probably doable, especially since they have have the downstairs section, too. Otherwise I still stick by my original neighbourhood suggestions, espcially Noe Valley. Blue DevilS4 07-22-2005, 07:52 PM plus they have a full bar, so you can have bloody mary's on the way in! BSOD 07-22-2005, 08:08 PM FallenBMWer 07-22-2005, 09:02 PM Absolutely fabulous Dim Sum. Alas, an hour wait on Sunday for over 100 dim sum selections, but about 25 selections available all the time. andrec 07-22-2005, 09:56 PM Blue DevilS4 07-23-2005, 05:30 AM Audi-Sav 07-23-2005, 09:48 AM that the owner reminds them of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. There's always a line out the door on the weekend though. I guess just don't ask for bread with your order...:) Audi-Sav 07-23-2005, 10:08 AM and got to know Bob, the owner pretty well. I was his test taster when he was designing his menu. Very good 'que. So years later, after he moves to the Haight, I take a friend of mine there for lunch. Now she considers herself a BBQ expert and to put her on the spot when we were ordering I say to Bob. "Bob, my friend here says she doesn't think white boys can barbeque. What do say to that?" She socks me on the arm and he says she gets her order free if doesn't measure up to her race's standards...she pays.. On 18th. But Arianna was still owner.....she either likes you or she doesn't. I will add though, they are very strict about NO CELL Phones! I like that about the place. |
