They're a job recruiter in Palo Alto.

I received an unsolicited e-mail from them wanting to discuss my resume and job search parameters--probably got my resume off of Hotjobs.com.

I'm a little suspicious since they're contacting me instead of the other way around, and I probably have a natural aversion to working with recruiters anyway. But the job search hasn't been going that great, so I thought I might give them a shot?

I've been a managing editor in magazine and book publishing for the last 5 years.

Before that, I was an editor/writer mainly focusing on PC and video games and some general consumer electronics.

I'm open to anything related to editorial management, editorial production, or editorial creative.

Just get back to them and see what they have to say. What harm could it do?

I post on Monster or Dice, and I get 20+ calls/emails a month. That is how it works.

Maybe your job search has not been going well because of your "aversion" to recruiters. That is their job....to find you a job...and make a couple bucks doing it.

And I don't really post on HotJobs. I uploaded my resume to the site when I applied for a position that was posted there.

And my aversion for recruiters comes from past experience where they don't know what to do with an editor, since it's not the type of position they deal with on a daily basis.

I just don't know any in the publishing arena.
