The so called auto-x sucked, way too short. Would have been better had you been able to drive all the cars, not just the E-Class. At the GM event, they had all cars avail to drive, even the Corvette.

But where else are you gonna take a new E-Class out for a spin full throttle?

I didn't do the GM event but my friend did and he mentioned that the GM event was way better. The MB event had two courses, one for the E320 and the other for the E500. The new E500 is a better drive than the old E430 with much better acceleration. The airmatic or whatever suspension is not bad for performance driving. I think the car would be an excellent cruiser or moderate sporty driver.

It was disappointing to be told that if you hit even one single cone, you were done for the day. I couldn't push full tilt as a result. I ran the course once on the gas through most of the slalom, lifting to scrub speed. The other time, I used the brakes hard (slower times as a result I'm sure). When I got back to the "pit" the brakes were definitely smelling a bit odorific :-)

This is the first time I've ever done this type of course. I can see the attraction of auto-x. I just might have to take it up as a hobby!

I'll still do it and we'll see if I get tossed. Never hit a cone last time :)

but ultimately was too paranoid. The accelerator on the E500 was touchy. The tires sucked and the asphalt was not smooth. Got a lot of tire spin.

saw the "hidden" button and thought about it, but they were already looking at me funny. >:]

Could smell something burning though (torque converter/brakes/tires/something).

I did think that it was odd that an ESP switch would not be available.

I was rather surprised that it was such a drastic difference. A less experienced driver could wreck that car quite easily.

we only did a couple runs each with it off. they knew that we all knew. we had some fun, got our kicks, but didn't push our luck.

It was at the same location as the MB event today. Got to drive the Z3, 3 series, 5 series. They had a wet skid section and a team autoX section.

This event, well, got a free cap out of it.

Demographics-wise I was really surprised by the turn out. Nice day though.
