I really had a hard time with this question - which car would I loke to see Audi bring in to the US. Was it one that I could afford (S3) Almost afford (S 4 Avart, RS4) or one that would make the image of Audi shine in the US (S8 - no other car like it by BMW or MB).

In the end I went with the S8 - though I could not afford one I would love to see them here as I feel it would enhance the image of my car.

What do others think?

There's one converted S8 in the country, and four factory S8's that I know of. One with the MTM tri-color GmbH racing interior (how cool is that?)

Most people importing would swap the chrome mirrors for A8 mirrors. It's nice to see fast four-door Audi's beating up the ownership demographics of Motor Trend, but most S8 owners (like most AMG owners) probably don't want to be bothered with the publicity.

It's a fast, fun sedan. People who want a fast fun sedan buy an S8. People who want to be seen go looking for used Countaches at the same price.

As for 'enhancing the image of my car', IMHO, the A4's reputation stands up just fine on its own, thank you. Besides, I could care less what anyone else thinks about my car anyway. I bought my A4 because I fell for it, and appreciate the enjoyment, confidence and safety that I feel in my car every time I am in it. Car ownership/preference is a very individual experience in my view, no two people view any particular model, color etc in exactly the same way.

Just got mine back after some body repair (freeway debris hit fender), and I drove Volvo, Infiniti,
and Buick, each was worse than the previous one, and I am *thrilled* to be back in my A4.

No ifs, ands or buts. Test-driving an S4 only whet my appetite further. It would be the best of both worlds.

I'm nixing the RS4 only because there's no way in God's Green Earth I could justify on my income going 50-large for any automobile.

Audi are made for people that like doing out door stuff. I am in a huge dilema between buying an A4 Avant or the S4. If the S4 Avant was available then my mind would be made up in an instant (I would get the S4 Avant). Perhaps it will be over here in a year or so. Hmmmm.
