has anybody out there chipped any 99.5 and above?
I'm getting the impression from all these posts that chipping the 99.5+ is a different ballgame because most of the tuners haven't developed new 'tunes' yet? I've checked the archives but nothing is really build-date specific, etc. I have a 99.5 1.8Tqts builddate around 4/99. does anybody know which tuner(s) (apr/wett/neus/autothority/mtm) has developed ones for the newer cars yet? I want a chip really badly.

chipped my 99.5 @2k miles w/wett 1 bar. also installed mtm stainless exhaust at same time. transformed the car! no problems--boost gauge(mechanical vdo installed on a-pillar) reads 15 lbs or a bit higher at max boost. see no reason why you should wait! mine's about ready for it's first oil change at 5k--it has used about a quart since new--most of that in the first 3k.

In MY 2000 Audi went to a throttle-by-wire system, which means that the ecu now controls throttle actuation, in addition to boost, timing, air/fuel mix, etc. There is no longer a cable running from the gas pedal to the throttle control on the engine, but an electronic sensor to the ECU which adjusts throttle position based on gas pedal position. This presents the tuners with the problem of programming chips to control this function as well...just means they have to develop new chips which include this function.
In your case, you've got a 1999.5, which like my 1999 has the mechanical throttle (cable from gas pedal to throttle), and all current chips should be fine. So do your research, pick your chip, and enjoy.

So all MY2000 can't be chipped? I thought Garrett came out with a new chip to take care of that problem, drive-by-wire and ECU resetting. Can anyone confirm this? If I can't chip I won't get a 1.8T!

The NB is also drive-by-wire and Garrett has just released his chip for it. Next up is his chip for the MY 2000 1.8T's. You'll just have to wait a little while longer.

'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Garrett 1.0 Bar, ABT Filter, Borla Exhaust, European Headlights, more...
That's what I have in my car right now, GTI-VR6. What a difference! Can't wait to see what kind of improvement it's going to make in my new A4, if I can find one. :)
Andy, since you have the G-chip in your car, did it really improve your 0-60 times by over a second?

Unlike normally-aspirated engine chips, chipping a 1.8T will give you big gains in the order of a solid 45 hp and tons of torque. Chips totally transform the 1.8T engine. 'Nuff said.

they are still in the developing stages but it will be ready soon. It is similar to the New beetle in the boost code and some other things.
