Something for the group:
This may have been unique to my vehicle, but when I swapped out my 99's stock air filter for a Jamex DTM, had a bear of a time re-fitting and securing the clamps. The only way to finish this was by removing the heat shield between the air unit and the engine. (Four phillips screws). I understand that it takes a while for the oiled filters to mold into place, but this took a whole lot of effort to accomplish. Of course, the duct and housing above the air unit was also removed, but I hearsay it wasn't necessary to remove the heat shields on earlier models.
This might be unique to my machine or to '99s.
Robbie (1.8tqms)
BTW: Thanks all who answered my TAP queries a couple of days ago! Mas Gracias

No... it's a pain to change the air filters on all 1.8Ts. You don't have to remove the heat shield, but it helps.
Cris

Hello,
I was watching the development of your TAP query, but I missed most of it when it was archived. I did not find it in the archives, so please share your finding with me through email.
thanks

Zsolt,
I still see the trail in the archives (Nov2-10, general discussion). It's about 1 1/2 pages down.
Basically, I discovered from a couple of posters that the bottom end of Stage II does *not* suffer at all, as I had thought.
I have ordered Stage II + the Scorp from Dick's Audi in Castro Valley. It's pretty cool being so close to them because I was able to go in today and swap my unit for a Stage I and air filter while I wait for the Stage II chip and exhaust to arrive.
Sweeeeeet!
