I've had my 99 2.8QMS for 1500 miles now and the best gas mileage I have experienced is just under 20mpg. This is on Amoco "Gold". My driving is about 50/50 highway/city.
This seems like poor gas mileage to me, and much below what the window sticker said.
(Not that I believe them anyway.) Is this consisent with others experience or should I take the car to the dealer?
FWIW, this is about the only negative thing I have encountered on this wonderful car!
Chuck
I have a 98.5 qms and have put about 3500 mile son it in the first two months. Mostly back road driving, lite traffic, handful of lights. I average about 24 and have gotten between 22 and 26 from the start.

I've been getting about 25mpg average over the first 1300 miles of mine. This is mixed driving with occasional flights of insanity since 1000.
Simon

Your mileage should be better, but I doubt the dealer will do anything about it. It's another one of those things that seems to vary more than it should from one car to the next, along with remote range (I get 80 feet) and alarm sensitivity.
I have a '97 12-valve automatic, which is supposed to get slightly worse mileage. I average about 23 mpg, and have never gotten below 20.
Kyle
I get about 19-20 in mostly suburban (occasional highway) driving on my 2.8qm with 93 octane gas. With an octane booster this figure goes up to 22-23 mpg. You may want to check your tires and see if they are inflated properly as this can make a big difference in gas mileage.

Over the past 8500 miles, I got everything between 15 to 33mpg (daily averages); when I was on vacation I got around 28 (not city, but not interstate either), and on day-to-day basis (going to work) I get around 20mpg on my 30v.
Cheers,
- Stan

98.5 Avant QM: about 20-22 mpg commuting (suburban, not stop and go), about 25-26 on highway. This is now with about 5000 miles on car. Think it improved about 2 MPG over when I first got car, but then I was also using A/C a bit (that is a thought - if you leave climate control to do its thing, compressor is on, which in fall temps is like driving with the brake on).
Above is in hilly, western PA/WV terrain. I also keep SP8000 tires inflated to factory 36 psi spec. Commute driving fairly sedate (traffic on 2-lanes), weekend jaunts somewhat more spirited but more interstate involved.

Anyone notices this?

I've got about 7000 miles on my '98.5 2.8. I am averageing about 20 mpg. On a 3800 mile road trip, I averaged about 26. I noticed that fuel economy begins to drop rather quickly beyond 60 mph.

After 2,950 miles, I consistently find I'm getting ~17mpg in mostly city driving, 26-28mpg on straight highway, something in between on mixed (~22 or so). City mileage is poor, IMO (lower than my MB C280). Highway is better. Overall for 2,950 mi. is 19.5mpg.

I used to not reset the average mpg between fillups, figuring I'd let it keep track of the long term mileage. Well, it kept inching upwards, and at one point was reading over 32 mpg even though I had never gotten better than 28 mpg on a tank. I posted a message to that effect on this forum. Someone responded saying that the average mpg seems to be fairly accurate if you reset it after each fillup, so that's what I do now.
Kyle
