I just purchased a used 97 1.8TQ with a TAP Stage 2 kit on it. I love the car, it's great! Paid 20.5K and it had 21.7K miles on it. It's about due for an oil change. I was just wanted to find out what would be the best oil to put in the car. Thanks in advance.

Mobil-1 is my favorite for my Garrett-chipped 1.8Tqms (also a '97). I prefer 10W-30 for most of the year, but I'll be using 5W-30 for the coldest winter months. BTW, I'm in the Philadelphia area. One more thing...nice email address ;-) You might want to think about changing it now that you've got an A4.

Yeah I use mobil-1 as well. I mean it is spec'd from the factory as the oil to use by BMW and Porsche.

Are you referring to the Rice in my name? Hmm... Dunno what I'd change it to.

I bought my 98 1.8TQ from my friend and former mechanic in upstate NY. (When I used to live upstate and drive an '84 Saab 900T).

Anyway this guy put Mobil-1 15w-50 in the car, and used it year round without a problem -- in upstate NY & Canada, where winter gets REALLY cold.
(He used to sell Amsoil at the repair shop where he used to work -- but the service manager at the local Audi dealership recommended the Mobil-1. And I also used to use Amsoil 0w30 in my Integra GSR.)

Should I stick with the 15w50? Or should I switch to 10w30 ?

Thanks,
Peter
