The almost 18 month quest to purchase an A4 is finally over. Just got home from picking up a 1999 A4 2.8 Silver, quattro, manual, sport, gray leather, bose, trip, and all weather. The car is just like all of you say....fantastic... I had them swap the standard tires for Pirelli Super Sport 7000 Z rated to get the M&S capability.
Can't say enought about Rector Audi in Burlingame and purchasing experience with David Leibenson. He was great. No haggling, just straight talk and a very good deal.
Can't wait to get thru the first 1,000 and give it a work out. Will put my new A4.org hat behind the rear seats as the stickers aren't available. Per Jason, new ones due out soon.
Well, off to the sack and my owner's manual.

gramps 2.8msq Silver

I've had my 99' 1.8Tqms for exactly a week, now. Love it! Check for white/cloudy marks under the clear coat. I noticed mine has a few, small marks! One to the right of the front grill, the other around the driver's side washer jet! Although they aren't really bad, they are really bothering me! I called the dealer and read up on it on this forum. Apparently it's a problem on the silver 99's. I guess water/condensation gets under those white, plastic "sheets" that cover the hood, roof, and trunk during shipping and it somehow kinda gets absorbed into the paint!? Anyway, other than those few, small marks, I love the car!
How do you plan on driving it, as far as break-in, before you hit 1K miles? My tach hasn't seen more than 4500 RPM, and the speedometer hasn't seen more than 80 MPH, and that was just a few times. I wish I could "get on it" more!
JT 99' 1.8Tqms
We are meeting for lunch on Friday at 11:30AM in Sunnyvale
at St. Johns Burger Joint...just off the Lawrence Expressway, between Arques
and the 101 freeway. Pls show us what a new 99 looks like. Thanks.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
NorCal A4 Owners Club

Sean's A4 Page / NorCal A4 Owners Club Page

I remember your posts when I ordered my A4 early in 98. You were having alot of trouble with a dealer. I'm glad you finally got an A4. I've been very happy with mine. What happened to the Prelude you bought? I'm curious in how it compares to the 2.8 as far as performance goes.
Mark (98.5 2.8 QMS)

Two problems with a comparison of my daughters Prelude and my A4.
First...Daughter is away and school and when she is home she and her boy friend drive the car. I only get to drive to the gas station.
Second, and most important....Haven't driven the A4 very much.
Will try and do a comparison in a couple of months
gramps 2.8 etc.

I plan to stay under 4500 rpm and under 70 for the first several hundred miles and then slowly bring it up between 500 and 1000.
Difficult to hold back, but will pay off in the long run.
gramps

If I remember right you had a Melange A4 on order last winter and you had experienced all the delays and finally cancelled your order. I guess that is water over the dam now so lets forget about it.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your new baby!!!
Roy M 2.8q Tip (Silver with Opal a great color choice)

Regarding David Leibenson at Rector--If you buy your car on the Peninsula--he is the one to buy from. Much better than anybody else I dealt with.
