The real competition is for the racetrack. This is why Audi has won everything it has ever entered and then had the appropriate governing body throw it out for being too successful on a few occasions.<br>· Won World rally championships -only production based car racing under Grp. B rules<br>· 1st in Trans AM and runner up in IMSA after not even competing in the first two rounds!<br>· DTM - changed rules so Audi could not win after winning first two years in competition.<br>· 2 litre series - we won all 7 series in 1996! so they banned quattro after a few poor attempts by other manufacturers to develop 4WD.<p>Has BMW ever won so many diversified events especially in touring cars, which are as close to our road cars as you will get in competition and BMW proport to be touring car specialists. Sure the E30 M3 was good but the V8 quattro still killed it in the DTM! (90 & 91) We finished 1st,2nd,3rd & 4th in the last race of the season just to be sure we won!<p>If their driving enjoyment is developed by their track success I think that they are one step down on the dais from the four rings, BMW's step is clearly marked number 2.<p>PS just look at the homeland sales figures.<br>

Audi are releasing a TT Gt car next year and expect more of the same as we have done for years, so you on the track. <br>PS Gt cars are not super relevant to M3's and A4's but we will still win as we always do!<br>As always, your spot is on the left of the middle step on the podium. <br>

4-5 Years ago when I was in the market for a new car, all i wanted was a "Quattro".<br>I did not have the money for a new quattro anything so I bought a GS-R, great car and would reccomend one to anyone. Now I had some more money, got a good trade in and I got one plus a A3 for the wife. Love the cars, good performance for the money. I also like BMW's but i beleive they are a bit over-rated and over-priced, I would dealy love to have a 911RS or something like that.<br>I believe if you are going to spend a premium dollar you should get quality and technological refinement. (Min 2 Airbags, ABS, 4WD and good performance and comfort.) at a reasonble dollar. I beleive the 180HP A4 quattro is unbeatable value.<br>What else competes with this package? No 4WD the VW Passat maybe? or a Honda?<br>I have owned high HP drag cars, down to a old Datsun120Y (Yeah I had a bomb once too). A4 at this stage has been the best Value for money around and I originally bought one from Audis racing success. If I hade a bit more money may be a BMW M5, but with news of a S4/S6 i probably would have still waited for a Audi.<br>My 0.02c
