View Full Version : The CLUB Mark 10-21-1998, 12:44 PM Ok ok be honest. How many of you use the CLUB?? I just got one for a present(nice gift huh?), and am not sure if I should use it or not...is the Audi stock security system good enough?
Mark Drew S. 10-21-1998, 12:49 PM Mr. ///M3 10-21-1998, 12:52 PM (nt) Oscar 10-21-1998, 01:00 PM I received one as a gift and I gave it away to a friend who really need it. Here in Texas, Audi and VW are not in big demand, thieves steal pick-up trucks, so in that sense, I do not need one. Besides, the thieves can cut the steering wheel and steal the car in seconds.
Oscar Tony 10-21-1998, 01:06 PM He also had an alarm. After six months, A friend noticed someone driving a truck just like his in the bronx. Sure enough it was his. The car was registered and insured to the so called new owner. The Truck was easily identified. There was black electical tape over the steering wheel were it was cut. JamesD 10-21-1998, 01:09 PM You might want to look into after-the-fact systems like Lojac and CarTracker. They can at least lead the cops to the thieves if you discover the theft quickly enough.
Here in L.A., you can sometimes see your own stolen car on the news during a live broadcast of a high-speed chase. You can be reasonably sure they'll get caught, but you might not want the car back when they're done... Zsolt 10-21-1998, 01:11 PM The Club is clearly visible, basically I use it so that if there are two comparable cars next to one another mine will not be picked. Now if the thief WANTS my car, then the Club - or anything else for that matter - will not help.
I believe that the only possibly effective measure is if you design/manufacture/install your own system, or pay stellar money for a custom one - otherwise specialists will know how to beat your alarm. Jim 10-21-1998, 01:12 PM I use the Club. I'm not scared to admit it. I'm not keen on thief utilities that they carry around, but I'm sure some do in fact carry saws but I'm also sure some don't. The Club is in NO WAY the "best" security device...it's just A security device. It's suppose to be a visual deterent to thieves. I'm sure if a theif saw it in my car and didn't have a saw, I would have a better chance of my car being where I left it then if I didn't use the Club.
Just my $.02
Jim Jason M. 10-21-1998, 03:24 PM I have a suggestion for those who do use the club. Put it on BACKWARDS, with the keyhole pointing at the dash. After talking to a friend who knows a repo guy, the easiest way to defeat the club is to use a dent puller (like they use in the ignition) to pull the locking mechanism out. After that, they use a screwdriver to unlock it (much like they use to start the car after the lock has been pulled out). With the keyhole pointing the dash, it is impossible to get a dent puller in position to yank out the lock. The only way then is to saw through the steering wheel.. (and if you have the sport wheel, it's pretty thick).
Although, I don't have first hand knowledge whether this is true or not, it sounds logical to me...
Anyways, I personally don't use the club in my Audi, but I did use it in my Accord..
Another $.02
ErikR 10-21-1998, 03:28 PM JonC 10-21-1998, 03:30 PM I have a couple of the heavy duty ones friend got at a flea market for $20 each. The "regular" ones look pretty worthless, but none of them will stop a determined thief. I use mine to dissuade the amateurs. The best security system I've seen is the Immobilizer (stupidly & amazingly available (standard?) on nonUSA Audis but not available here), which basically scrambles the wiring harness so it won't start without a special key. That's what I put on my old Porsche. Just that & a heavy Club, no alarm. Only way to steal it is to tow it, and if theyr'e that determined they can have it. Henri Berger 10-21-1998, 05:59 PM For those with poor memories, as soon as a thief enters, a large metal clamp locks them to the seat as they are treated to electroshock treatment. After the treatment, the clamp disengages, the door opens and the smoking corpse is pushed out.
-henri Another Drew 10-22-1998, 03:30 AM Is easy to forget which forum to post our questions/comments sometimes. Uh oh, is this A4 related. Sorry, I'll take this to the General Discussion Forum :)
Drew
Guilty for doing it this time, Sure will be guilty again sometime in the future. tomt 10-22-1998, 04:10 AM And I use the Club in one car, Dr. Hook in my A4. (I think this is more effective than the club.) Of course, I've also added a Clifford alarm to my factory system.
But with all of this, if a pro really wants it, they're going to get it. You just have to make it as difficult as possible - and make them choose that car next to yours. Zsolt 10-22-1998, 07:06 AM |
