View Full Version : How much hp gain for changing to K&N air filter? Jason in Vancouver 09-14-2002, 08:58 PM for 1.8T 1.8T with chip and 3.0 Zed 2.0 09-14-2002, 09:05 PM Yes, seriously. If you want something useful, buy a cone filter and do custom heat shielding...and do good heat shielding otherwise the intake is useless and will only draw in hot air which will not be good. Then make a custom inlet for the intake, because the stock scoop is pretty pathetic. Don't waste the money unless you add the custom parts, and do the job right. reznunt 09-14-2002, 09:21 PM [ej257] 09-14-2002, 09:23 PM you smell!! [ej257] 09-14-2002, 09:25 PM can't really describe throttle response...not that it's more power... A4F-ert 09-14-2002, 09:46 PM more air than the stock filter, which will help with performance. Nothing major that your going to go WOW about but it will help. 2) you are going to replace the filter element how many times during the life of your vehicle at how much per filter(I'm sure audi like most euro car makers is getting $15-20 per filter.). While the k&n can be cleaned and reused for the life of your car. I'd get the k&n, I've run them in every vehicle I've had and have had no regrets [ej257] 09-14-2002, 09:52 PM someone did dyno runs and logs of OEM vs k&n and there were no gains to be had in any department. Check the archives...I am not an advocate of filters..if you think they help or whatever, that's cool. To each his own. The only benefit I see is that it is a re-usable filter, and may be worth it just so you don't have to constantly replace the filter. But that's the only gain I have ever seen. reznunt 09-14-2002, 10:28 PM [ej257] 09-15-2002, 08:10 AM Zed 2.0 09-15-2002, 02:16 PM so it'd take owning the car to like 120k to equal the cost of the K&N. That said, I picked up a Piper X foam filter out of curiousity and I'm going to install it pretty soon and see if there's any change in anything. I'm not expecting there to be. |
