So as some (most) of you know, I am moving down to Boynton Beach in 13 days. I am looking to purchase a tv for my bedroom while I am down there. Most likely gonna get a flat panel LCD.

This thread isn't about what tv to get, but where to get it. As I am coming from Canada, I do not know all of my options of stores to look at. I have checked the typical BestBuy, CompUSA, Circuit City, Radio Shack. I have noticed though, that I can get it online a lot cheaper.

I visited Frys.com and they seem to be the best price so far (even after shipping costs).

So, if anyone here has good recommendations on where to go whether it is a brick and mortar location or online, the help would be much appreciated as I do not know a lot about US stores yet.

Thanks in advance,

Personally I would look for sales at the major retailer's. Might not be as cheap as online, but then you have a real face to look at if you have to complain about something.

JVC, Pioneer or even LG. Unless you go Sony XBR, not ever worth the money.

Costco is a US based membership "warehouse" type store. About $25 to join a year. You can even order from their online selection and return it to the B&M store.

come to your place and fix your TV if damaged or defective. Even with shipping still cheaper for LCD TVs if you had to return it.

As for sony, it seems overpriced for me and I have also heard too many unsatsified customers to justify it. I will say they make great products, but have known more people to complain about them than most other companies.

name Olevia 337H for my bedroom and am very happy with it. Caught it on sale from PCrush.com for under $700.00 shipped. Not 1080p but good for the bedroom.

The KDS is the precursor to the XBR series of LCOS rear projection.

Next best for sony is the 50 inc Bravia XBR...that thing is gorgeous!!!

Brandsmart is the best if you're good at haggling though.

And the TV price was easily hundreds less than anyone local. You simply cannot beat an on-line store. And for those who might be worried about receiving a damaged TV -- don't. It was flown from Newark to Orlando, then trucked from Orlando to Miami and delivered by a local trucking company. You unbox it and inspect it BEFORE signing for it, so there is no worry about getting a damaged TV.

Of course, returning it isn't free nor easy if you buy on-line -- so be sure to check it out thoroughly first. If you want to be able to see it in your house before fully committing, I would recommend Circuit City (new or open box), Costco (90-days NO QUESTIONS ASKED), or BrandsMart. I bought my first Sony at Circuit City as an open box and had zero problems with it. Good money savings if you don't mind something 'used.'

Good luck!

was honoring the printed price. We (several of us bought them) wound up arguing with the regional manager who told us to leave the store and walked away from us. Myself and two others bought the TV from Brandsmart and three others went to a more cooperative CC. Man that guy was a prick. I had his card but lost it.

BTW it was a 42" Phillips plasma for $700 off. This was a year and a half ago and I still don't shop there.

at the very least they must price match automatically, but maybe they just changed the 10% of the difference policy (I don't remember).

The way it generally works. Instead of paying for your item as the standard register you go to customer service with the printed price from a competitor and they match it and you pay there.

If I was treated like you I'd be really pissed off.

...outweighed the fact that Brandsmart was willing to match the price anyways. Fine print on those price matching deals always excludes misprints, clearance sales, etc etc.

Just because Brandsmart was willing to honor their own mistake doesn't mean CC must also honor Brandsmart's mistake -- at least, that's how I see it. I'm sure it could be done (and I guess it was, at another CC)....but it obviously just depends on the manager and the situation. Can't say I blame the guy...$700 off x6? is a pretty huge loss.

I don't think we ever told CC it was a misprint and Brandsmart never admitted it was a misprint to the CC manager. That guy just saw how much he would lose on the deal and paniced. The other CC my friends went to couldn't have cared less. My friends were on a mission to stick it to CC. I just wanted the damn tv :)
