View Full Version : Joy....$2300 and counting for the bathroom remodel. Ironically that's what I paid for the Miata.

We switched contractors- got a better estimate/feeling/start date from a highly recommended installer. It's a good thing too because this crap adds up quick.

$750 for the floor, shower wall, shower floor and travertine. It is a really nice Italian porcelian with half a dozen decorative pieces and corner shelves thrown in.

$1550 for demo/install labor and installation materials.

We still need to either replace the enclosure or have the existing one reinstalled and sealed up (I might do that myself). The next big ticket item will be a new double bowl vanity and top, faucets, mirrors etc.

The good news is that we caught it before any more damage was done. The slab was damp under the pan liner and there was some light mold on the surrounding wood. I cleaned all of that up last night and sealed it with KILZ.

I'll post before and after pics when it's all done.

I put $30k into mine, which was $10k more then I wanted to spend, oof. And in the process, we found termite damage over my 6' slide glass door.

The 12" tall by 6" thick header was more then 50% eaten away, and so were the jacks that support it on either side. Actually found live termites in that area as well, so I got some $$ from my termite guy since it's bonded. But that was another $850 repair I wasn't planning for (after I applied cash from exterminator)

I have a similar design with my entry way. A carpenter friend of mind suggested building a "cricket" in the valley between the entry and the garage roof.

I'm not sure if that technique would work in my situation.. I have water merging from three points on the roof and no where to divert it to but down
