I used to have a book that listed recalls and the first half was all american, with things like
may cause fire or fail to stop and the acceleration thing was listed many many times.

Keep in mind...mine gave me absolutly ZERO headaches until the TC started slipping as a result of (I forget exactly what) at around 110k. Not too shabby when you consider the history of most Fud automatic transaxels, let alone one with some power in front of it. The fact that Ford programmed the thing to lock/unlock cycle the TC everytime the AC clicked on/off had a huge effect on longevity of those things.
