I'm thinking either BoA or Amsouth because there are branches right by my place. Any suggestion between the two? Any others that you're very happy with? I've with fifth third from the town I'm from but the only brances here are downtown and I hate taking an hour to drive a total of 10 miles down Colonial and back every time I need to make a deposit. driving in Orlando sucks.

I have my personal accounts through USAA online bank...if you can get on USAA, I would highly recommend it.

I transfer the money from whatever checks I deposit into BOA to USAA via USAAs website for free. It's instantaneous, unlike BOA's rediculous hold time placed on ANY kind of check. In hindsight I would go with a different local bank. Did I mention I hate BOA?

I don't do checks. My paycheck is direct deposit, I use the ATM or Online banking, of which their online bank is great.

I did have to wait 8 business days on a $13k check to clear, but I think that's customary with any bank. Never had a hold on a check < $1000.

Either way. It really depends if you have a lot of money or not.

I used to be with First National Bank of Florida and I loved their online. Then Fifth Third purchased FNB and I was then forced to use 53's sucky online banking, which I now merely tolerate. I do a ton of transfers between accounts and I like the info to update almost immediately (FNB's would reflect a deposit ~20 minutes after, 53's takes two days sometimes to reflect the deposit in the balance, CRAP).

went next door to Amsouth and ballah'd it up. got a nice thank you card in the mail today from them actually. handwritten and signed by all, though i'm sure they mass produce them for new clients everyday. still made me feel welcome.
