I heard that a big part of your auto insurance quote is based on your Credit score...is this true?
My score has come up nearly 100 points since i switched over to nationwide. Since i turned 21, i figured i would check to see if my quote would go down.

My policy does not look at my credit rating, but I do think they should since people with bad credit seem to drive more wreckless....just seems like when I get cut off in traffic or see wreckless driving, it's always some redneck/white trash yokel in a piece of crap '79 Chevette.

He got a solid quote for $850/6months for the exact same coverage.
He has a kick but credit rating, and is the same age as me...pretty much...
I have had no accidents, tickets, anything.

All car insurances companies I've ever dealth with they have never asked for my SSN. So your credit has no effect.

Not only do they have to have your SSN they also have to tell you they are going to check your rating.
Insurance is based on your age, martial status, gender, location, type of car, and how far you drive for work, basically that's it.

A few weeks ago one of the guys on Car Talk (PBS radio on Saturdays) said that VW Jetta owners are the worst drivers on the road today.
Started something of a discussion on their forum about bad drivers. I posted the link to the video of the M5 vs RS4 and said that clearly BMW drivers are the worst. ;)

Are Jetta Drivers the Worst?

and they did want to pull a credit check. Showed up on my report as "non-credit-decision request" or something similar.
FYI, when I was your age, I paid $170 a month for full coverage on my A4 w/ USAA. It went down about $20 when I turned 21, actually.
Quotes ranged from $150 to 250 w/ various companies.

But, you have to give them permission to check it and they have to disclose the Fair Credit Reporting information on how they will use the information.

That's really ghey. But I guess if everyone did it, you'd have no choice.

Which included a good student discount, multi-line discount (renter insurancse with them as well), although the multi-line discount was minimal on the premium.. like $30. The good student discount was the key, that was $250-300, forgot exactly. All you need was to have all B's or above and give them a copy of your most recent grades every renewal period. You also get to keep the good student all the way until the dayyou turn 25. You just keep giving them your last semesters grades every renewal period.
When you turn 25, you loose good student, but get the 25+ rates. Ends up almost evening itself out. I turned 25 and got married around the same time (within a few weeks) so I got the 25+ and being married rates all at once. It ended up going down to like $85/mo.
My rep is Rocco English on University/Dean across from the Publix plaza. I deall with Wendy Tumlin overthere and have been since 1998. Great person, always happy and very helpful.

The fact is, credit is an indication of how responsible you are- that is why it is considered.
