It is soo smooth and fast, 115hp so it will get out of its own way, I got to say I loved it from the moment I saw it.... A harley that does not vibrate your fillings out....what a concept.

We (raz and I on the bimmer, mom and dad on the FJR) took the back roads up to Palatka and back. My dad passed an FHP cruiser at 100+ with me right behind him. Fortunately the trooper already has someone pulled over and didnt even look over. I was on the brakes hard as soon as I saw his brake light- I thought for sure I was busted.

NEVER!!!! I still only have 440 miles on it! Between moving out later this week or early next, a possible trip to Hawaii in early November and our 'busy' season at work, it doesn't look like I'll be doing any real rides until 2005... but then I'm all game ;)
Might try to make it up to Daytona later this week...

Your taste in bikes is almost as bad as your taste in cars ;-)

A 1200 Sportster had the best power(Torque)/weight ratio of all of Harley's offerings....so who's the panzy now.... Not to mention..if you go back far enough, it was the sportster or ancester of it, that started the whole Harley craze back in the day. It fits the very basic needs of of a motorcycle: Plenty of torque, and none of the extra shizz that that isn't nessisary. If you decide to open up the S&S performance cataloge you can have one BAD bike. There's a guy at the local Harley dealer that has a sportster that will (no joke) actually pull from an R1 in a 0-90mph race.

So, my question to you...my friend...what is a "non-panzy" bike to you? (and don't mention any Japanese 1000cc sportbike or I will profile you as no better than most in my/our generation who is after ONLY "how fast can I go for the lease amount of money") If Ducati 9xx series is mentioned, you are a good friend. I've seen quite a few of them in a dealer and they are as good as jewlery in how they're built. Every piece of metal looks like it had been to a machine shop, and not just stamped like most Japanese bikes. That extra (x)thousand $$ is coming from somewhere...

Why would you buy a HD (other than the Vrod) if you were concerned with performance? If I'm gonna ride a Harley, its gonne be low, wide, and have at least 87 cubic inches. No Sporster fits that bill. Traditonally HDs have been all about the big v-twin, and the nostalgia- not performance.

The Sporster started the craze because it was affordable. Joe Biker could buy one, ride it for a couple of years and then give it to the wife in order to justify the new Road King.

I like Ducs, Bimmers, and Aprillas, not necessarily in that order. The BMW cantilever suspension is just incredible, but I dont care for the intensive maintenance. Say what you want about Jap bikes, but for $10k you can get a 1300cc FJR, that has plenty of torque, 140hp, ABS, and requires hardly any maintenance. Not to mention it rides almost as good as a Gold Wing but retains a sportier stance and appearance. Oh, and walk all over anything out of the S&S catalog other than a nitromethane drag bike- with two up.

Thats not to say I wouldn't like owning a 1200 sporster, its just not my first choice. Given that most HD guys consider Sporsters to be biatch bikes, it was just humorous that you were saying rubber mounts were for pansies.

relax....I was just yanking your chain ;-)

I saw one of those the other day with a custom paint job in what could have been Tornado Red and the seat re-covered in Tan Ostrich leather. It looked incredible.
Don't know what would be a bigger money pit. A bike or a boat? Enjoy yourself and wear a helmet!
