Have a '97 1.8TA w/standard radio that does odd things....Several times have gone to turn down volume, it gets LOUDER; or gone to turn up, gets SOFTER. Also have turned up or down 2-3 clicks with no perceived level changes, other times 2-3 clicks is quite noticable. Note that I have GALA turned OFF when this happens! None of this happens in any consistent way or manner I can determine. Anyone else experience this?
Have seen numerous complaints about the cupholders, but I don't get it. They hold a medium size Dunkin Donuts coffee PERFECTLY, which is all I care about.

Same thing on '98 Bose system. No rhyme or reason. It just goes up sometimes when turning down, or down when going up. Whatever! It's rather strange. Only does it once in awhile though. I thought I was losing it the first couple times it happened!
Charles
My radio does the same thing. My dealer (Donaldson's) replaced it 2 times but they all did the same thing. Good luck.
Dunkin donuts medium coffee fits perfectly. No matter how hard I drive, it never tips.
George
I complained to my dealer and they blamed it on GALA, even thought the car was OFF. At the time I didn't feel like arguing with them, but since my warranty is about to expire, I may bring it up again. Does anybody know if they will replace it with the new style radio?
Kyle

The AoA district rep told me the Delta could not be replaced with the Concert. Please let me know if you find out the swap is possible

I have had similar radio problems on my 1996 2.8, which has a Bose system from dealer. Sometimes when using radio or CD player, I don't get full output and have to jiggle volume switch up and down to get full output. Dealer replaced radio last year but new one still has problem sometimes.
I'm picking up my new 1999 2.8 on Friday --- and hoping problem doesn't follow me.

i am currently in the process of swapping out the delta for a concert.
why?
i can get a panasonic CD changer for $280 CDN (8 disc changer), alpine is TOO expensive.about $400 US at clair==$600-700 CDN
Also I want a balance control!!
I also did not want to have an aftermarket deck (hate the spacer look on the sides, and my last car was broken into)
so what to do?
1/ secure concert--also make sure u get security code
2/ reprogram concert U will need dealer or VWtools to program for:
a) bose/no bose
b) no powered antenna! the delta uses separate power to antenna, concert has this on antenna leads. Having power on could blow antenna amp.
c) cd player
d) remote display (trip computer)
3/ rewire connector harness in vehicle. The concert has 4 connectors vs 3 on delta. Signals are more or less the same--i am ignoring cell phone, which adds another level of complexity
4/ build adapter for CD changer in back-- have to convert from DIN (for alpine) to connector used for Panasonic.
i will let u know when i have completed.
( i am also adding 3 amplifiers, 6.5" in front doors, 8" subs, etc)
1996 a4 2.8 qms
