View Full Version : What to do? Upgrade my V1 for $189 (gives me a brand new unit), or sell my old V1 and buy new?

I really want the smaller V1 chassis, and have been thinking about what to do. I could send my V1 back for an upgrade, which really just gives me a whole new V1, and that would cost me $189. Or I could sell my current V1 for around 175, and buy a new "open box" V1 for $359, and I would only be out about $189 as well. So it would be even either way (if I could sell it for $175).

So, the question is, should I try and sell the old one for $175 to someone local and get a new one...or should I just send it back for refurbishing.

And one more thing....I really dont want to bother with ebaying it.

The older version sucks, on par with a crappy $100 detector brand new now. I drive in the middle of nowhere on 417 and all of a sudden it is full-on X-band (with it turned off) signal then nothing. It just seems to pick up a lot of crap, and yes I've tried it on all the settings...

I would just send it back...I would feel bad selling the older one to someone you know for $180, as I think you can go out and spend the same or less for a better detector.

BTW - was your serial # registered to you? :-)

of selling your old one. Unless you know of someone that is interested in buying yours. Is it just the case that is different or is the programming older as well. If the programming is an older version, can you upgrade the programming for less than $189?

I get this:
V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.7 gives high performance on all radar bands. Also,it remembers your "mode" setting when shut off. Has stack of four LEDs on front panel for band identification. Front and rear laser.

Upgrade Recommendation: While this version is not quite up to today's V1 standard for Ka, it's almost always good enough, and always better than detectors from other makers. X and K performance is excellent. Upgrading merely to improve radar performance is not cost effective, in my opinion. Upgrading does bring other benefits, including our latest Generation 3 front-and-rear laser warning, which is a significant improvement over the Generation 2 technology used in this unit.

I think the usual cost is far less for detectors that aren't as old as mine.
